My intake manifold was a similar battle- it was corroded onto a few of the long studs so well I swore there must be one more nut or bolt somewhere. It was an ordeal to get it off, and like Brian mentioned it didn't just give up after that first pop. I had to whack and pry it up the whole way. There was no way that thing was coming off had the engine still been in the car. It was a process even on the engine stand. I hit the studs and the manifold bores with some wire brushes to get the white corrosion before the reassembly with anti seize.
