The original ‘78/79 front brakes are very close in design to the 3.0 RS/RSR. There were many parts (…expense) and along with the increased noise probably drove Porsche to replace them with one piece units. I would agree they provide minimal benefit for the street but they are vital for racing which is why they were fitted to 3.0 RS/RSR as well as the 934’s/935’s of the time.
