Hi Paul, they come with the check valve spacer on them. You just have to tighten them because they aren't always tight when you get them.
You don't have to use the check valve spacer on some of them if it makes the pump too long but it makes it much easier to get an open end wrench on to the check valve if you have to. That comes in handy because sometimes when you loosen the cap nut to remove the banjo fitting the check valve comes loose and unscrews instead of the cap nut so you have to put a wrench on the check valve to keep it from turning while loosening the cap nut.

Like many bolts and nuts I put a drop of motor oil on the cap nut threads to help it turn easier when tightening it.

All Bosch 044 pumps are made in Czech Republic now. They seem to work fine but they are noisier than the original stock ones.
