It's more like the alternator bolts into the center of the fan (at least that's the way I think of it). It's an easy enough DIY job. Maybe 3-4 hours. The only part I ran into trouble with was pressing the alternator out of the center of the fan assembly, itself. So I removed the entire fan/alternator assembly, took it to my local P-car shop and had them press it out and replace the alternator with a rebuilt one. IIRC you need the special wrench in the frunk toolkit (in case that's lost) to unbolt the fan assembly.
