Back when I had a sniffer (Gunnson Gas Tester) I kept mine at 2.5-3.0. Any higher than that and it was just too rich for my car (each car being different, depending on a lot of things). But that was before I had installed on-board AFR monitoring, which is (was) all I go by now.

Oh...and btw....it's CO as in carbon monoxide. Add another oxygen molecule and it becomes CO2 ...as in di-oxide.
