OK, fine, absolutes are never absolute. But liquids only compress nominally. Water would work fine as brake fluid if it wasn't corrosive and didn't turn into a gas at the first breath of heat. I'd suggest you get more sponginess from mechanical give (master cylinder, lines) than from fluid compression.

But the main point being made is that gases tend to follow the laws of fluid dynamics.
