throw out bearing 'mounting' when re-pairing engine/trans?
Mornin, germs-
Trying to turn the corner and start putting my motor back in (waaaay overdue), got the motor n trans paired finally - ensuring to catch the TOB ears w/ the release fork. Question is... the TOB seems to have the ability to 'walk' toward the flywheel. Is this normal? In that, it's loose there and then is pre-loaded w/ tension by the Omega spring once installed? Want to be CERTAIN I get this right prior to install. Regarding the infamous Omega spring... last time I dropped the motor I was able to 'unfurl' it no issue. This time - kerSPRANG... it shot onto the floor in pieces. I'm assuming I didn't break it and it's supposed to do that. Any tips on re-installing 'that' while we're at it here? Any insight to both of these quandaries is greatly appreciated - TIA! |
There's a lot of play on the TB/Fork relationship, just make sure the ears are aligned to catch the fork. It always amazes me that it remains aligned each time i do this. You can look thru one of the holes in the trans to confirm. The Omega spring just need to be pried back in place. I can't remember exactly how I did it, as it's been several years since I've had my motor out. I've got some pictures that may help, send me an email and i'll send to you....timc1018 at hotmail...

THANKS TIM! That makes me feel ALOT BETTER about the TOB! 8-)
YGM! O-spring... I'd sworn I'd broke it when it let go, but the ends don't have any fresh break look to the metal... hoping thinking I'm OK 8-/ |
pic's sent.

The fork doesn’t always line up correctly it’s awesome that it did for you. But even if it doesn’t it’s not that big of a problem to get it lined up correctly looking through the hole in the transmission. The next biggest problem that is seems you’ve licked is if the disc is not properly centered, if that’s the case then the transmission won’t properly butt up against the engine and that can be exhausting and time wasting. As far as the spring, that’s not a real big deal just make sure you take pictures off the Internet print them out because it can be confusing.
