Supercharge my 911 SC 3.2 European spec.?
I’m planning for the upcoming project to supercharge my 911 SC 3.2 European specification and I need your advice and experience how to etc.
The plan today is to use a VEMS ecu with all the necessary sensors (TPS, Exhaust temp, intake temp, crank trigger, 2x knock sensors etc.) together with a single turbo installation, 993 headers and a large intercooler from Turbokraft. The plan is to use 0,5 bar boost and the goal is somewhere around 100 hp increase, so not a monster engine. |
VEMS can work using stock crank sensors, you would only have to replace throttle sensor.
VEMS PnP kit comes with everything you need for getting your car to work. Unless you pull the engine there's little point installing knock sensor bridges (requires drilling the cylinder heads) and if you do that you might as well madhine pistons a bit to lower CR (or change them out for other ones) and also convert to twin plugs (with VEMS it is easy-peasy to control). |
993 headers are not ideal for a single turbo setup and won't fit your 3.2 heads flange-wise either... I'd probably look into 930 style headers.

Single knock sensor bolted to the block works perfectly well. Jake Raby used to put a bracket on the bellhousing and mount there.
There's a tech note for knock sensors that says to avoiding mounting them high on the block - e.g. near the valve train. Exactly what the factory did with the 964 bridge(s). |
European specification = high compression. Not ideal for for a turbo.

If you are going full standalone ecu with distributorless ignition, you can tune conservatively enough to make it reliable. My car was 9.5:1 running 10 lbs with no knock detected. I would have ran more boost, but already had broke 2nd gear once. Didn’t want it to happen again.

Also can (and need to) use nice big turbo that has little backpressure.
