Early Turbo Trunk Carpet Question

I own an early Turbo from 1977. The original trunk carpet has a burn hole in the carpet from the battery and I want to replace the carpet.

My car is very original and my question is: should I hunt and look to replace the carpet with a used carpet from another car or is there a replacement available in the market that looks just about identical to OEM?

I hate to buy new only to get the carpet and it be miles from original in look and feel.

Thanks in advance.
Jamie

I have the same burn mark, Jamie. I too, am unsure of what to do. Pelican has a Perlon kit for the trunk, but I can't tell how it is just from the pictures.

Hopefully someone shares their experience Bryan. Thanks for the bump.

I cut out an oval section from the original bad area (battery acid) and glued in good section from a vintage trunk carpet. It matched perfectly and you can't tell where the glued piece resides. Make sure you cut out the replacement section a little larger than the cutout hole so it will fit tight. The replacements trunk carpets that are available today don't have the same look as the originals.

i did the same except I brought it to my local dry cleansers/ seamstress and she stitched the repair with almost no visible sign

Thank you guys for the scoop! Its helpful. I found a piece and will do the same!

Bryan, if you need a piece of the carpet, drop me a note as I should have some extra once done.
