Thoughts on modded 78 930

Well.. I do like this 930.. It’s cobbled together and the wrong things in a porsche let alone a 930..

This 78 930 is listed in the for sale section of pelican.

This 930 looks vintage 1980s cool.. From the roll cage to the personal steering wheel the whole package just works.. I’m guessing this is what magnus sets a goal for with each of his creations and I understand what the end goal was when I see this 930.

These goals can’t be faked.. I’m saying this 930 looks like a legit old school 80s mod.

I know nothing about modding 930s BTW.. I like this however.

Well looking at the actual ad in the cars for sale section it has some interesting bit-n-pieces, but brown on brown is a hard sell. Additionally the poor rim offset choice, too small tire size for rims, Paris-to-Dakar ride height...hummm.
410 HP seems light for a twin turbo with all the other engine work done. Ad states "lots of patina" and it does look like it's been used hard at some point in time. Calling it an 80's build, but with a 90's engine and a G50 doesn't ring true {yeh, yeh I know you could get a G50 in '89, but a 964 3.8 ain't no 80's}.

The cost of all the pieces far exceeds the asking price, but then again, you never get that investment back out of any car, soooo is it worth 105K?

If you want a street car, can you live with a dedicated roll cage?

I guess it all depends on what you might want to do with it?

And to shamelessly plug my own car, my '84 euro that is much closer to stock-ish, with killer suspension and a great stance AND BLACK on BLACK for $35-ish grand less, is a much better deal for a street car minded buyer. I should get off my ass and list it officially for sale, as I have to sell it anyway.

Mark

Probably wouldn't live through a wreck of even minor significance, since the upper bar is ready to cave in the back of a poor lidless head!

I think the color combo, while not my preference, is interesting. Not sure about “the only Water Cooled Twin Turbo 930 Porsche in existence.”. Any way, there’s a 3 cylinder 912 on the Samba that’s got my attention.

I have a heavily modified ‘78 930 so I don’t see anything wrong with making your car what you want it to be. I’ve made a point of not cutting any sheet metal so anything I’ve done can be undone. There’s not enough info on this car to know if the price is good or not but it seems high to me.
