Oil leak link

So my turbo is again leaking from the compressor side.

I found the breather from the case to the oil tank also leaking.

Now after researching for causes, I found this pipe can get quiet a lot of oil slung into it. If this breather is flowing oil to the tank it can be said that there is no blockage which I read blockage could cause crank case pressure to build. In turn this pressure can force oil into the turbo and if filled above the shaft bearing/seals oil will run into the housing.
With a correct functioning check valve this should not be possible.
A scavenge pump that is correctly working and not allowing flow back to the catch tank would not allow the turbo to fill with oil either.

So if this is a correct summary the oil leak has to be from the turbo when it has been running and when parked the oil seeps from the up pipe connection.
Of course if I gave it a boot full of boost to clear the compressor side immediately prior to shut down the oil would be pushed back up through the IC.

Sound plausible ???

what turbo do you have
who rebuilt it if is was rebuilt.
don't remember your details

if you have oil in the hose form the case to the tank you may have too much oil in it. I never fill mine up. I try not to go past half way. excessive blow by past the rings could also cause too much oil in that hose.

are you getting smoke all the time or just at startup.

Hi T77911S,

No smoke at startup unless I have had the rear jacked up. Smokes when accelerating on boost.

Running a 7006 rebuilt 4 times and oil is never past half way.

I am so over it

Decided to do an experiment to prove the rebuild again is fracked ....... so purchased a new K27.

ps if this does not fix it I will have a slightly burnt out 1978 930 for sale .....

going cheap.

Steve.

Runs fine on cruise.

Gives a light cloud when boost kicks in.

Park it, and end up with oil seeping from the connection to the up pipe.

New turbo should arrive today.

My thought is that when the 7006 detonated the core assembly has realy been damaged beyond repair.
It had to be machined/honed for oversize bearings and now there is a discrepancy that when first put together runs fine on the VSR yet starts to fail after driven.

Hoping this weekend I will have swapped the turbos over and have some joy.

And no more

Steve.

Turbo removed and Awaiting new 7200 today.

I found no oil in the turbine exhaust side, the core assembly was not full, and yet again the up pipes to the intercooler and air cleaner are oily along with the compressor side that had a small puddle of oil in it.

Hi Rahl,

So far I have only tentatively brought it up to boost.

However so far I have not been able to say that there is a lot of difference.

The 7006 turbine side has a larger exhaust opening by around 5mm compared to the 7200, with the compressor sides being very close to the same. An interesting difference is the smaller internal diameter of the up pipe from the compressor in the 7200.

Next task I am really looking forward to is the replacement of the rear CV boots.

NOT !!!
