Bad experience with precision turbo
Hi
I Have to know if its me or are there more casualties. I wanted to upgrade my turbo from garret GTX to precision - BIG BIG MISTAKE I installed precision 6262 ball bearing . its was wonderful for 5 months.... after a few months a blue cloud appeared each time i started......and it has deteriorated every weekend. I switched back to garret and it was fine. I called precision , they denied any issue with the turbo..... so is it me? am i hallucinating ? and why on earth don't they take responsibility and fix that..... are they any more like me ? |
because you're not sponsored or wearing a precision sticker...
|
And people wonder why we stick with Garrett?
If you have a 1st gen GTX35R and want to upgrade, the Gen2 GTX is a nice bump up. |
oil seal
can a local turbo shop can replace oil seal?
|
Write it off to experience and buy Garrett ........and
Garrett will honor their warranty if you need it. |
This seems to be a common complaint with them. Sure the compressors work great but man they still can’t get em to stay sealed.
|
Precision built their business on modifying Garrett units. When they started to abuse that relationship Garrett said enough, go make your own, entirely. They had to start their own engineering of bearing systems. Like most they reverse engineered but there is much more to the center housing rotating assembly (CHRA) than simple shaft, bearings and seals. There are critical materials and tolerances, pumping flangers, cavity volumes, machine shelves, step bores, deflectors to make it all work. Buy Garrett

We can always tell if a car on the Dynapack chassis dyno is running a Precision turbocharger by the tell-tale "ting - ting - ting ting ting" of the compressor wheel self-clearancing on the comp housing. :-/
No, not all Precision turbos do this, but theirs are the only ones that do. |
HAHAHA! "Self clearancing" is no bueno.
|
Not reassuring, I have a 6766, for the moment no particular strain, I cross my fingers... If one day I had a problem with my turbo precision I would change directly to a GTX3584RS.
|
Same Problem
I have a Precision 5862 for 3.5 years.
He starts to smoke slightly blue when changing maximum boost pressure to no boost pressure. Otherwise, the character of the turbo fits well with the car. I am satisfied with the response and the final performance. Unfortunately the quality of the bearings is not right. No one needs such problems. |
This is a Precision ejecting its turbine wheel:
https://youtu.be/rNOktnFyk4U?t=451 This should NOT HAPPEN on a properly built unit. There are containment regulations for a reason on these things... |
