Worst than alternator

I spent almost a whole day replacing the middle heater control wire. The control end broke years ago so I bent it into a hook, thus the lever wouldn’t park at either end. It connected to vent box behind the brake booster. While trying to undo that end the nipple broke. Further examination showed the other end was also broken. Maybe that’s why the vent sucked so badly.
I had to remove the vent box, put a tiny drill though the broken nipple and the flap end. Put a long tiny screw in and then the fiddly part of putting it back together.
It was quicker to change the clutch.
