Early 911 vs 930

I was hoping to get some opinions about the direction I should take from the vast experience of this group.

I am considering trading my Euro 930 that I have owned for two years for a 73RS Replica (built on 72T). The deal is close but not done yet. We are haggling over how much I need to put with the 930 to make it happen. I have owned an early car before (71T original and stock) so I know what I am getting into but with this being a modified motor on the RS replica, it would seem to be more fun than the stock 71.

I will list some details about each car and would appreciate any advice on whether I should pursue further with more cash or walk away and continue enjoying the 930.

Euro 930 - orig motor but built w aftermarket intercooler and K27, about 7k miles on motor, G50 trans swap, newer paint (orig color) and interior, 8" and 11" custom Fuchs

RS Replica - orig motor w 2.4S cylinders and 2.2E pistons just rebuilt claiming 9.8:1 compression, orig color restored years ago but looks very nice, no rust claimed (would verify w PPI), NOS parts used for RS look

I should also say I live above 8,000' in Colorado so my driving season is short and my roads are too much fun to describe but the elevation always seems to be a challenge until you get any older car dialed in correctly.

At that altitude, don't do it.

Shouldn't he be giving you the money, not the other way around?

^^^This is exactly what Iím thinking. Granted your car doesnít have the original transmission, which hurts the value, but it also doesnít have the word ďreplicaĒ in it either.

Go boost or go bust! Definitely donít let him bust you while heís also taking your boost!

I would walk away from that deal entirely. Since youíve already committed to putting up some cash, thereís no way to reverse course now and get him to put up cash in this trade. Just walk away from it, it sounds like a bad deal without given any further info.

Sounds like the other guy is coming out the clear winner here.

You have a 930 (boost is awesome at altitude) with a G50 (fantastic upgrade!), K27 + intercooler (both sensible upgrades to improver overall performance and driveability), and enough grip to use said power.

He's offering a 2.7RS replica with a (maybe) mildly warmed up 2.4L -- not even a 2.7 in the "2.7RS"??

Sounds like an awful trade.
Don't walk -- run away from this transaction.

Why not spend the money on making your car an early RS replica and end up with an infinitely better and more entertaining car, especially at 8000'. Plus you can custom tailor it to your exact taste.

What?!!!
Why?
Honestly what are you trying to get? Every aspect of this deal is backward. Only positive in my book to this is longhood. Take your extra cash and do a backdate in your 930. Done.

Your asking turbo guys if you should trade?? Maybe ask the n/a guys and see what they have to say. "Turbo" is why I drive Porsche!

Have you driven the RS Replica yet? It may change your mind. Personally I wouldn’t do that deal. Especially given that the replica doesn’t have a 2.7 (or higher) in it.

Need more information on what you are looking for and why you would consider this even at at an even exchange. It's not performance, not stock-ness, not reliability. Longhand mystique? Incriminating photos?

Personally, I wouldn't walk away from a deal like that.

I'd point and laugh at him.

Then drag race him. At altitude. A 2.4L replica? Give me a break.

Early 911 vs 930

Iím not trying to go against your intent.

Porsche produced over 80,000 long hood 911s

Nearly 13,600 of those were 911S and is the only 911 even comparable in monetary value to a 930 barring super rare RS RSR R or early SWB 911 S.

Iím not sure what year your 930 is but I can EMPHATICALLY guarantee you there are far more 1972 911 Ts out there than your RoW 930.

Porsche produced from 1980 to 1985 around 800 930s per year worldwide.

8,248 1972 911 Ts produced

830 1980 930s produced

This should put things into prospective as far as which is a more scarce and desirable vintage porsche.

I think you should sell your 930 for cash and buy two 2.7rs clones without any power or 2.7s!

Bad bad idea and I'm not a turbo owner but I am a 2.7 RS clone owner with a hot 3.0 that has lots of power.

Basically the 930 is the pinnacle and the clone is several steps lower.

Good luck whatever you decide

Tony
