Porsche Flash Not Working

Hi All,

I have a 1980 911SC & I have searched for this. I could not find the solution.

Its NOT the Emergency 4way flashers or the turn signals or the dash lights for turn signals. That All works plus the turn signal lever either lighting up either side with ignition off. The headlights have all the functions high/low beams.

The problem is the Porsche headlight flash for a greeting to other Porsche drivers. Is there a relay for this feature & where does it get its Power for this function ? I would think from the headlight circuit. Should work when turn signal lever pulled toward the driver.

Mine is Not functioning.

Any suggestions to get this feature to work ?

Thanks,
Mike

did you try it on any non-porsches first.

i would start with the turn signal switch itself.

I believe that feature has power all the time.
power from battery - ign sw- lgt sw - turn sig sw- fuse - lgt

separate power path than regular hi beams

If I recall correctly from many years ago...It is probably the contact inside the turn signal stalk. When you pull the stalk toward you it makes contact with copper strip and the high beams illuminate. You can see at the bottom of the stalk the copper contact strip. You will probably need to pull the turn signal stalk out of the plastic housing. If you move the up, down and back you will be able to figure out how it works. Try to pull the copper strip up so that the contacts touch more easily. Should work. This was something I did about twenty five years ago so my memory may be a little foggy, but give it a try.

It appears to only work on Porsches older than about the 991. Certainly doesn't work on Macan, Cayenne, Panamera etc. Worked for me on a 914 the other day, got a hearty wave back.

This.
I had my SC unit apart a month or two ago - intermittent headlights. Same issue.
Be careful pulling the housing apart - it is held together with some small sneaky screws. Do not force.
