engine case studs

hello boys..what would you recommend ..I am just about to start on engine tear down on 1979 930 ..owner said one of the stud was already broken...original 60 kmm(i doubt it )...is 930 using dilavar or just steel studs? On Carrera i use steel studs or if the owner wanted the 993 studs.
So what should i use ..
thanx

SuperTec studs for my 2006 rebuild. Think they were cheaper than stock & seem to work well.

Bigtoe32067 10-17-2019 08:42 AM

Arp are the cheapest

spuggy 10-17-2019 08:53 AM

Unlike the Space Shuttle(!), almost nothing I've ever used on my car was selected based on it being "cheapest available"...

There's a fairly long thread from back in the day (engine rebuild forum) as to the metallurgical differences and other choices Henry made, so I won't go over them here. It seemed like a better product to me at the time.

Bigtoe32067 10-17-2019 09:14 AM

You know what I meant. ARP are one of the best also and I’m not even sure ARP were available in 2006.
I think Henry’s products are great but noones ever had an issue with arp. If you want the most expensive, best option then contact Neil Harvey and get some of his new ones.

so 993,full threaded you would not use? I have used them on Carrera engines...

Steve Weiner recommends 993TT Dilavars.

That's good enough for me!

quattrorunner 10-17-2019 11:41 AM

ARP isn't crap though. Use that

proporsche 10-17-2019 12:16 PM

thank you guys .. i`ll tell the client his options;-)..............

Making over 700 at the wheels on supertec studs..

TurboKraft 10-17-2019 01:21 PM

factory 993T fully-threaded studs
ARP stainless studs package (includes billet washers + 12-point nuts)
Supertec

Performance differences in these studs will only matter on very high-performance engines.

If this is a simple rebuild with updates, these will all perform well equally for you.

700 is strong. And awesome
