removing remote locking devise
Hi my 1988 Carrera cabriolet came with an " Autopage XT -59 " alarm and remote door locking feature. Being the old fashioned type I rather lock and unlock the car the old way with the key. How do I remove the whole system and revert to the good old fashioned way. The alarm horn is not working, but the lights keep on flashing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am quite handy and do all my own service on the car. Please help, this is driving me bunkers and has left me stranded a few times. Merry Christmas, Witt, Langley BC Canada |
i tried to find some info on your alarm but couldn't really get much.
if you have a wiring diagram for it that would help. about all I could find is that the system is a "module". most alarms install an additional relay that opens up the start signal to the starter. your may or may not have a separate relay for that. it could disable the fuel pump. right now about all I can advise is your are going to have to get out the 911 wiring diagram and trace some wires. if it did cut the wire to the starter I would SOLDER it back together and then put some heat shrink on it. I would not use a crimp unless you use a bare crimp, then solder and heat shrink. actually I would solder all the wires that have been cut. I also saw something about a valet switch that may bypass it. |
These things are often a mystery, having been installed after market by who knows who. They're old (obviously) and extremely difficult to find information on. I have a system manufactured by a company called Avital - and I know that only because my key fob has that name on it. I've spent hours on line trying to find an owners manual, with the only clue being the shape of my fob trying to match pictures up with available information. I've come close, but still not quite a cigar. There are functions that I simply don't know how to program with the fob.

the one good thing if all the wiring feeds the box.
I you have the same wire going in then back out, all you "should" have to do is splice them back together. I stress "should". |
If you do a Google search for Autopage XT 59 car alarm manual, you will see listings for Autopage XT manuals that may be similar to the 59 that can help you in the removal.

Thank you very much for all the advise. Belief it or not, after I dropped the clicker accidentally the warning light on the remote turned off and the clicker worked again.
Nevertheless I am still planning to disable the whole system as soon as I find a wiring diagram for it, but I am OK for now. Thanks again. Witt. |
