The only thing that worries me is the possibility for that little shim to fall off.

Am I the only one that finds the standard factory way with a bit of shim material or a bent feeler gauge to be quick and easy-peasy?

I guess it's what you are used to and feel most comfortable with. IMHO, doesn't get much simpler then the factory method, plus easier to track valve stem/seat wear with the factory method, as you are actually feeling the drag. At least that what I have done for the last 45 years.

All these hey-look-at-my-new-gizmo methods seem like unnecessary complications. How much time are you really saving on a task that doesn't take that long to begin with? If you cannot judge how much drag is on the feeler gauge, should you even be doing maintenance on your 911? |

Agreed, never used one of those gadgets in over 40 years. Bent feeler is so simple. Or use the feeler holding tool. If you don't feel comfortable judging how the .004 should feel then use an .005, if it goes in it's too loose. if the .004 won't go in, it's too tight.
