930 monty muffler, looking for feedback
Im browsing for a monty 930 muffler. I like the stock appearance particularly for an early turbo like mine. Also, it weighs 17 pounds which might be half the weight of the original 930 muffler. so far so good. Im looking for impressions from those that have used it. sound level, performance, etc.

Monte Muffler
I read a few posts that said the build quality in too great.
I'm pretty happy with my Rarlyl8 930 muffler on my 1976 930...not that I've driven it in the last few years. ![]() Rahl

I installed one and like it, my car had a cat-converter on it so the mounting bracket was different, it needed a non cat bracket. I have only had stock exhaust with cat on the car so it was an improvement.

what was the improvement? was it louder? if so, How much? I dont mind a bit louder but not too much. do you think it makes more power, I understand the exhaust manifolds are a bit restrictive even with euro exhaust but i would imagine these flow a bit better than stock

Turbo spooled up quicker, this is stock turbo for now, I think just removing the catalytic converter did the most with improving exhaust flow out of the turbo. It is louder, I can not remember exact difference in sound volume, but not loud enough to attract attention from authorities. If you are in no rush I can put a sound level meter on it next time it is off the lift.

I would think it is very similar to your euro muffler, it is not an open flow through so it dampens the pulses quite well, at the cost of adding some back pressure.

I heard they didn’t flow very well. Restrictive. Stock car probably not a huge issue

I have a nice left-side-out Billy Boat muffler. It mounts to the turbo out eliminating the cat. Sounds real nice and is in excellent shape. lmk if you're interested

Monty Mufflers were usually very well made, and had nice deep note, as opposed to being noisy.
I think there was one in the for sale forum a few weeks/month back.

I think the one that was listed a couple weeks back was not for a turbo.

I have what I think is a Monty, dual out, no stampings to verify. It was given to me because the stainless welds had cracked so I had it repaired at my local muffler shop. It's great. Love the sound, fitting for my 930 but not Zork tube loud.
