Finally Back -HP Junkies-

Hello All!

Get ready for a bunch of nonsense , wasted money, fairy tail stories, questionable claims and plenty orthographic errors

So happy to be back! So the story goes, exactly 27 months ago, 27! I decided to play some more with the turbo hot housing ( if you don't know much about me, please do a search as I was one of the pioneers turbocharging a 3.2, at least pioneer in my world)

The car ran phenomenal until under boost I broke cylinder number 6 again, this has happened twice under similar conditions, 93 fuel along with the single plug is what we contribute too.

So I decided to embark into a new journey and start from Zero, between bad shops, Covid-19 and parts shortage I ended up doing the work myself but dragging along
@GJF and Eddie Bello along my fairy-tail journey. GJF Thank you so much for your help with all my nonsense!

First task was to completely disassemble the engine to see what we were going to do, The rod bearings and main bearing were in this engine since day one that @Turbo Werks build the engine about 15 years ago, we have never ever open this engine completely, so it was the first time and the things that I learned from this.

1.This engines are very well build together

2.Continuously doing oil changes, I think played a huge factor on my engine longevity including 1/4 miles runs 10.45@144mph, 0 to 1 mile runs @194mph, plus all the other stuff. While I have Pauter Rods , I like to mention that I made 620rwhp with stock rods and never had an issue. My engine never broke aside from the cracked cylinder and even with the one cracked I was able to drive home because of the Niro rings on the cylinders,

3. With good fuel they will run and will run great, I was running 17psi of boost on low boost and 32psi of boost on high boost with racing fuel (lots of #fakenews about boost levels on this cars)

4. Coatings, I think I was one of the very first ones testing the coatings on the bearings, and after 15 years with original bearing and coated I'm sold that this is A must. Could they last that long without coating? I don't know and I won't find out.

4.To do these things right, there's no sugar coating it, it is very expensive and I'm not sure the gained HP can justify the dollars in the entire equation, but nevertheless.

Bearing from Left to right used Main Bearing , Rod Bearing and New Rod bearing coated for reference

Because we went so deep I decided to send the crankshaft out to have it measured, polished, cleaned etc. this took forever and after all I finally found the shop that does 90% of all Porsche crankshafts. ( You can thank me later!)

From there, I was lucky that by doing car detailing jobs on the side and I was able to purchase almost everything new, all bolts and nuts, washers, O-rings, lines, oil coolers, you name it, everything is new.

So from the lessons learned it was time to part ways with the single plug and embark into the so famous Twin -Plug that I have been alluding for years, yes single plug works, works well but if you are going to drop the hammer and make power Twin Plug is the way to go.

For that task our friends over at @xtremecylinderheads were the ones to refresh the heads and FINALLY get this thing called Twin Plug even though Bill had been trying for years to convince me to do so. Along with the fresh heads I decided to go with the Denso individual coils, good for the 1,000+hp Supras good enough for me.

And from there we upgraded the fuel system, when you work with Bello, there's only One way , his way or the Highway so we made new custom rails, new lines, new fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator, 1200 cc injectors since we are going on E85 fuel along with gauges and fuel Flex device.

I have a few things to button up on the engine (basically just check valve to piston clearance) then do a final assembly. I need to fab the charge piping from the turbos and then I am just missing the fuel pump and lines, and clutch package. Then I have to wire the whole thing up of course, so I suppose allot lol.

I ended up doing COP's as well on my twin plug. I am using the Bosch coils (recommended by Motec). They fit really well and race proven by several of there customers using an M600 firing two on one channel. I have all of the COP's and plugs on the shelf.

Bill

Unfortunately I loss my 721rwhp dyno sheet so we call it a lie but I did find my 675rwhp, I'm open for the debate over 46hp

With a Hub dyno I think we will see the real true.

Really great to have you back here, what a story! Sounds like some great results, and also awesome to hear you got the Band back together with your consulting group you had there ... GREAT to hear both names (Gerry / Eddie) are also still in the fray here somewhere!

Some quality bonding time you got with yours there! DIY is impressive, and 27mos is an eternity. I'm on 30mos since throwing 2 rods and spinning a main... suuuux... your story provides solid motivation and inspiration

Lookin fwd to yer freshly laid down runs... look @ that curve!!! Keep up the amazing work down there you nutter

Yasin, it was good to finally meet you in person and see your collection.

That 440hp was a the last dyno run before replacing the KKK HF2 with a Garrett GTX3582R turbo so might be more hp now.

I gotta hijack the thread with turbo pics because everyone loves pics!

Is a mental challenge to have a car down for so long with so many emotions, like maybe I should put a LS motor or a Tesla Motor at one point I was almost ready to pull the plug and get a 3.6 crank to make a turbo stroker motor but my Gut feeling was screaming to me to stop!
