930 intake manifold insulator question

are there thick insulators between the heads and intake manifold? or just the basic gaskets?

There is a thick insulator on the 930. See # 7 in the image.

Im running large port S/C heads with a ported 930 manifold. So, I’m using aluminum as opposed to the stock phelonic spacers. I don’t have any insulators between the heads and spacers. Just gaskets.
Any wisdom as to weather I’ll experience excessive heat soak ? If so, does anyone here know where to get 38mm thin spacers ?

Thanks that diagram shows the gaskets better than the one I have.

the residue/ remains of the old gaskets make it look like there was a Carrera style insulator there not the paper thin gaskets shown.

Thanks Lorne M.

I have Turbokraft CIS blocks, which come with an insulator and gaskets. Not sure if they sell the insulator separate. Also worth noting, I think the actual aluminum block is a few mm shorter than the factory plastic block so that the aluminum block plus the insulator equals the height of the factory plastic block. If yours are already the same height as the factory plastic blocks, you might need longer studs - though I guess it could impact clearance between air cleaner and rear shelf.

you cant just add insulator blocks or remove them as it will change the height of the IC.

i have turbokraft with insulators.

i am always amazed at how cool the top of the 930 engine is.

be aware of how the gaskets go on. they do NOT go on the same direction for both sides.

with the plastic IB's look at the surface of the blocks and make sure they are not deformed. they should be flat.

Thanks for the info fellas. I’ll have to measure my aluminum blocks against the originals
If they’re shorter I’ll see if Chris will sell me a set of his insulators separately.
Apologies to the OP for the high jack

check your OE plastic injector blocks for cracks - common w/ heat & age

and beware not to over torque them... will crack 'em

Change to Al blocks (TK) and as T77911s says - take some care looking at the gasket orientation. I did a post on it years ago (prob never find it again) . Get them wrong and you have next to no sealing.

Interestingly they refer to it as a flange (injector block makes more sense). The image is from the 78-83 parts catalog (available on the Porsche Classic website). My 75-77 catalog has no mention of the 930 that I can find. The Porsche Classic site only has what I have I once had factory micro fiche with everything but sold them off long ago. Does anyone have a parts catalog for the 75-77 930?

#7: 930 110 141 03 - Flange qty:6
#8: 930 110 197 10 - Gasket qty:12
