HELP: Can you identify the part in the picture?
Hello,
I brought my 89 930 to S. Korea about 4 months ago and still not able to register the car due to smog issue. Currently Lamda is about 1.4 and that is way over the limit. The Lamda is one of item Korean official checks to register a car. After that, they will check the 'real' smog. The car was able to pass CA Smog without any issue for the last 8 years. Currently, we are trying to do some tweak to just pass the test. To lower the lamba, I don't know what to do. Any kind of suggestion will be helpful. Also would you help me to identify the two item in the pictures and if possible the functionality. Thanks. |

At idle the diverter valve is supposed to be blocking air from the air pump to the cylinders and allowing it to the cat. Ask your mechanic about the diverter valves. Also, there are turbo workshop manuals on line to introduce you to the details of your new car. Enjoy!

The air injection system is actually an emissions control system. I *believe* that it is designed to cause the catalytic converter to heat up, although I'm not 100% on that.
I'm not sure defeating it will lower your emissions, although maybe it will help you pass some specific part in the test. |

Thank all for your comments and helps. Finally, passed the test. I will sleep better today because I will have some whiskey for the celebration. Thanks again.
