1979 93 Andial barn find that was on Ebay

Guessing some of you guys saw this '79 930 on Ebay, looks like someone pulled the make offer trigger on it today. Cool car, lots of Andial parts, Ruf 5 speed and 12 plug dual ignition, would be cool to show up on here as someone's project. Did anybody on here get it?

It was listed on a few Facebook groups for about $85,000. The Ruf transmission adds quite a bit of value, but the neglect will require a significant chunk of time / funds. The condition seems marginally better than my barn find 930, except for the price.

IF mechanically its fairly sound, I would drive as is and enjoy the heck out of it! As tempting as it would be to paint it.

I agree! the patina looks really awesome. I'd get it running mechanically sound and drive it around looking like a very expensive rat rod!

even if you like the patina ....I amgoingoutoon a limb and saying the buyer better be adequately knowledgeable, passionate and have a few bucks left after buying it. even if mechanically sound as in compression and all internals ok....you have fuel system, hoses, lines, ignition braking...tires....it a big job ...and i am guess that given the gofast mods of that era...this carwasdriven hard and probably busted when it was abandoned.....I did a barn find project and its $$$$$$ but so worth the journey.

Experience tells me........if it looks messy on the outside it is probably worse once you get into it. Kind of like that beautiful gal I used to know with the messy apartment......

That was a very cool 930 at one point. But, even if it were bought at $50 it would be very difficult not to be upside down. $85 is insane imo

Fast forward, I can envision the listing on BAT now " Rare unicorn 1979 930 completely restored, reportedly 15 thousand original miles modified by Andial with Ruf 5spd before restoration".

She looks pretty tired and not too well cared for. It's the unknown and unseen stuff that would scare me away from the $85K price tag.

It would be great to see the rebuild process...but agree that they have only spent the FIRST $85K on that car unless they plan to do it all themselves...even then.

Yes,
My question is why? There are fairly nice unrestored early 930s with no rust issues or even few cosmetic issues anywhere for not much more that you can easily drive for awhile ( BAT recently sold a few early 930s for around $100K that I "VoitureLTD" commented on ) to restore now or drive and restore later as the restoration costs will be much less.
Reminds me of when my shop did 300SL Gullwings back in the 80s/ 90s and we had a client ( a dentist ) who brought in stuff like this one. We did one and it cost soooo much more than with the previous pretty nice one to start with we previously did for him. it was the last neglected and rusty one he asked us to do. There are some that if given for free I would not take if I had to restore it, I would say, no thanks.

I think the one thing to keep in mind on this car, is it had the make an offer option on Ebay, or most likely by calling the dealer directly, since it was listed on Ebay. Asking's one thing, getting is another. My guess is the buyer did a realistic offer and the seller accepted, a fair bit below asking. It's anyone's guess, but I'd say somewhere between 60-75k is what is sold for.

I just sold a 1976 US turbo tub, gutted out from racing with non matching late 1980s suspension for 25k, with 3 people in line to buy it, so the market dictates what people will pay and what they intend to do with it.

It would be cool to see someone show up with this '79 and document the resto process on here, or even cooler return to the road leaving patina for now. I wouldn't be surprised some shop bought it with the resources at hand, to make the rework much more cost effective.... time will tell. I think for some people the process is more about the journey of doing it themselves, then just buying someone else's nice turbo. Granted the economics don't always make sense.. Just my two cents worth.

^^^ This 100%
Just have a look at the 79 930 that recently sold here for $110,000
It was immaculate in every way.

I'm glad I didn't see it, I probably would have paid more. It's a very nice color and then the Pasha ...hm , and Andial.....
Maybe we'll see it again here, sooner or later the buyer will look for parts and come across Pelikan.

Nice color, yes, built by Andial, doubt it, 15K miles, doubt it, Pasha from new, hm. The rust issues are serious and it is difficult to redo a rusted extruded welded unibody safely. Lets face it ( my 2 cents ), it should be a parts car. Another challenge is if restored ( properly ?) the challenge is with the doors closing and passing the dreaded "ping" test.

My one and hopefully only experience with a rust issue on a unibody pan was In 1988 or so. I bought a " rust free" 356 cab from CA which when my shop inspected it, had began lightly rusting areas of the battery pan. To get it perfect the new pan from Porsche had to be " stretched " by welding a puller to near the end of the pan to pull while welding one of the dozens of pop welds on each side at a time to reweld them to be in perfect alignment to the original factory pop weld spots. It took forever. Good luck with this one.
