Turbo Bracket Re-install
Dumb question...I just replaced the 3LDZ with one from Evergreen. Now I am struggling to trying to reinstall the big turbo bracket as the holes are not even close to lining up. Did I do something wrong or does the turbo need to be re-clocked? Do I need to really put serious elbow grease to re-install the bracket?? I am reluctant to force anything and possibly break something.

Yes the turbo probably needs 're clocking'. There are some adjustments that can be made. A pic of how the bracket is sitting would help show what is out of place where. The main tweek is the small bolts joining the cold side to the body. This section rotates and it is highly likely the replacement turbo will not be in the same o'clock position as your old one. Rotating the body against the cold side changes the orientation of the studs on the hot side holding your bracket.
And you will have a V clamp on the hot side half also. Again you can tweek just the exhaust end studs using that. It is normal to have to re jig things after changing turbos. They never seem to go back exactly the same way. Alan |
Here is the photo of the bracket. I did have a difficult time getting the oil line studs lined up. Greatly appreciate the help!

Right - so if you relax the V clamp and rotate the bracket up you should hit the studs.
The oil line fitting can be oriented by loosening both ends of the turbo and rotating the mid section. Alan |
Before I sent mine out for rebuild I scribed a line to allow me to return the housings to factory clocking positions. I realize this doesn't help you now, but future people looking for this info might find it helpful.
