Delay relay pin assignment?

I bought a delayed action relay (930.617.117.03) and I'm installing it in a car that was not originally a turbo. I have the factory manuals but the problem is the relay is not marked as to which pin does what. Can anybody help with that?

LOL - Why, on a non-original car? Just another thing to go wrong. Many remove/disable - or they just haven't worked in years, but luckily not in a way that causes a no-start.

A sensible cool down makes that relay redundant. I always understood the relay was there to prevent you killing the ignition on a plain-bearing turbo spinning at 100,000 RPM. Just don't do that...

Lol - you're probably right. But I'm sure there was a reason the factory did it through the entire production. The car was originally put together by some real hacks and I'm just trying to make it right as reasonably as possible.

Heh. I'm sure the factory had good reasons - at the time - for everything they did.

The factory had to build 500 cars for prod racing homologation, they were worried about how many would actually sell - and were apparently taken by surprise (& delighted) when the model sold like crazy - I mean, the RoW 3.3 made 300HP in the late-70s, a time when few "sporty" cars in Europe made 100HP? Yeh, different times...

There was no long-term experience with turbo cars in the 70's - and they apparently initially thought the market for the 930 would be racers trailering them to the track.

Many of the things the factory did are generally viewed now as overly conservative and/or over-engineered (eg 10lb magnesium recirculation valve - that can be replaced with a 1oz plastic Bosch valve/3oz billet fully rebuildable equivalent and some hoses).

And the factory clearly took the "we'll build them as long as they sell" approach - and avoided significant development or changes, except when forced by standards (emissions) or production/supply chain considerations (eg 930>G50 change, 3.3->3.6 motor).

Heck, they even bolted CIS onto the 3.6 965 Turbo 2 - when the 944 introduced Motronic in 82 & 911/928 switched over in 84/85 MY respectively...

So not all their choices are necessarily in your car's best interests/worth preserving 50 years on, s'all I'm saying

Can certainly get behind that, and tip my hat to you - good luck finding all the gremlins

I have never had to replace one in 45 + years and it does not show a specific application but if you go in to Pet for 87 911 illustration 902-60 position # 10
Part number 803 905 897 is about as close as you will find.
Looks like you may have to notch it for the locating pin.
