New to me 87 930 - Rear Wheel Bearings
I'm in the process of refreshing the rear suspension as it has leaking shocks, worn spring plate bushings, etc. So as I have it torn apart I thought I would do the rear wheel bearings. I cleaned up the trailing arms and a lot of debris got in the hubs. I spent many hours researching this forum and found invaluable information on the rear wheel bearing replacement procedures. I used the slide hammer to get the hub out of the trailing arm and found the races and bearings looked really good except the newer debris in the bearings from my cleaning passing old seals. Going to pull the outer bearing off the hub tonight after I get a few bolts or threaded rod to fit my HF large bearing separator. Car allegedly has 80k miles. I do have all the parts coming but was wondering if anyone just replaces the bearings and leaves the races and reuses the existing crush washer? Trailing arm is out of the car as I'm pressing in new bushings. Thanks!

I think you are taking a risk by not changing the complete bearing, cleaning and repack the old ones is an option. I believe you need to use a new crush washer.

Changing only half of the bearing (or 3/4) without the inner races is even worse than leaving all and just clean, all or nothing here. the crush bush can be reused if you reach the desired play at correct torque. But is it worth to disassembly all again to fit a new one then if not? Your choice. I had to replace mine...
BTW If you want to torque the thing, then you need a very big vice (I doubt you can clamp the arm save and good enough) if doing it outside the car. With trailing arm in car it's still a heavy thing.

Thank you for the opinions. Just wondering. Inner race came out easy with HF disc, inner bearing fell out after hub came out and the outer bearing wasn't too tough with large bearing separator. The inner race looks a little more difficult and then onto reassembly. I think I will bake the arm and freeze the races. Since it's out of the car for bushings, I will press the outer bearing on (after the seal is installed) and then attempt to press the assembled hub in the inner bearing after freezing the hub and warming the bearing. The final torque/tolerance will have to be done with the trailing arm in the car. Thanks again.
