Air | Water Costa Mesa, CA
Hey All,
Anyone else attending? Seems to be quiet everywhere I look. Last year for Luft in LA at the Port there were events at many of the big shops in advance of the event and lots of online chatter. Tix were sold out. This event not so much. Possibly because of the new event and inclusion of water cooled? Maybe the venue? I assume the organizers being who they are will find a way to make it cool but the venue is not nearly as exciting as LA port or island near San Francisco. At least we can grab a bite at Applebees or Chili's afterwards ![]() The OC is a nice place to live and Costa Mesa is not as stale as other parts of the area but nothing like LA/SF warehouses and character. I'll be taking the 930 and wife.com. Hopefully my repairs were real and all will be well a week later. Daughter.net is meeting us there as she lives 2 min away. PM me if you plan on attending and want to say &^%* howdy.

I'll be going, but in the 964, not the Turbo. I think the venue is much larger than those in the past, so maybe that's why there are still tickets left? Hopefully they can make the Orange County Fairgrounds have as much character as previous shows.
There's typically a drive (The Professor Run) the day before. There's another drive through Joshua Tree area on Friday for which there's a $185 entry fee and a limit to the number of participants. For the 2nd drive, there's a get-together on Thursday evening, and then the drive on Friday, ending in Costa Mesa. Not doing either, as I'll be at work. Friday also has Good Vibes Breakfast Club. It's an informal run up Angeles Crest, ending/parking at Newcomb's Ranch. Come whenever you want. Leave whenever you want. Take whichever route you want. It's a morning cars and coffee type gathering, but bring your own coffee, as Newcomb's Ranch is closed. There's also something on Sunday. The 356 group has a swap meet that got canceled when it was normally held during the February Lit Show weekend. It's been rescheduled for Sunday. Down in Anaheim? I can't recall the exact details. Last Sunday of the month also typically has big cars and coffee shows in LA (not sure of OC car show scheduling): Supercar Sunday in Woodland Hills, Griffith Park behind the merry-go-round, Petersen Museum. So still lots of stuff to see. That's all off the top of my head.

Car tickets have been sold out since I got notice of the event. Probably good for me since I would have purchased one but my 930 will still be in the shop lol. Maybe I'll grab a spectator ticket and check it out. I like both air and water but would prefer the original air-only venues in a run down industrial area like bleachii pointed out.

Ok thanks. I must not be tuned into the correct channels. I'm not on any social media so perhaps that's what I'm missing. I do believe the size of the venue helps.
I wonder if the 356 club swap meet is the same one from years past held at the german club in Anaheim. Forget the name of that place but was near the Pond. I'll look it up as it was a fun event. I miss the old Boys Club event as well. Auto Kennel did a meet up last year as well as many other of the large Porsche shops in LA. They were all posted on the Luft website. Thanks for the response.

For anyone else interested in the swap meet Sunday here is the link. Anaheim on border of Fullerton from 8a-11a hosted by 356 club.
https://www.356club.org/event/all-porsche-swap-meet-car-display/ Here's the other event I was thinking of...Steve McQueen show on June 2. This is a neat event. https://stevemcqueencarshow.com/about-the-show/

But when I first heard of the event and tried to purchase a car entry ticket, they were already sold out.

I received the email while I was at my computer and immediately clicked the purchase a ticket and was already sold out. I didn't realize that was a car entry ticket. Was pleasantly surprised to learn I could get a spectator ticket earlier this week.

Some excitement building...on way home tonight coming down 405 i saw a 4S. Then realized a Safari was in front of him along with another modified air cooled and then another behind him. A 968 clubsport was trailing a little way back. Talked to the last guy in traffic and he said they had come from bay area and were just arriving for the show. Air + water convoy.
The Safari had Washington plates so not sure if he drove it down from there. It was the new one, not sure what they call them. I don't know my water cooled models too well.

Unfortunately we will not have a booth there this year but we should have an employee going to spectate so stay tuned for a Pelican Parts photo gallery of the event!

For anyone curious about the show that isn't already inundated with photos and videos, here's a video I put together from my families trip:

While the venue wasn't quite the same as the docks in San Pedro or a Bay Area island, it did allow for lots of vehicles. Almost an overwhelming amount of vehicles. They did a nice job staging the cars as they always do. I didn't take a ton of photos and only shot cars for my personal albums including the Gucci Pink Singer which was my daughter's favorite and she doesn't even like pink.
Also, I met Juliene (sp?) from Montreal who drove his silver Targa Turbo to the show. I like to take irrational road trips but not sure I have any RT's quite as irrational as this one. Hopefully he makes it home safe. There was also a 'turbo' Targa on Turbo Row inside one of the buildings featuring a number of Turbos but found out later this was a 'Turbo Look' and not a true Turbo. Perhaps some controversy here ![]() They had $11 lattes. A new record for me, I've never heard of the $11 latte before this weekend. They had a cool section of Cayenne's setup for offroad and camping featuring rooftop tents. The Safari (Dakar?) and 968 clubsport I saw on the freeway were both inside the show. Cool for them. Anyone heard of Bramo? Seem to be another super high end builder but I had not yet seen their work. They had a targa with the removable roof but the roof was glass. Very cool. Haven't had time to investigate these cars but they had a few there.
