Shift fork on inspection plate
Porsche lists two part numbers: one for Turbo, one for Carrera. Is there a difference? See part 6 on chart.

Hello all,
Sorry to revive an old thread but I am looking for an answer on this as well. I have a shortened 1986 930 trans that has a lot of fore/aft play in the shift shaft. I pulled the plate off the bottom of the transmission to inspect the shift fork and it appears to have a lot of wear compared to the pictures of 915 shift forks I have seen. I am unable to find a picture of the 930 shift fork. I have a good used 915 shift fork on the way to try and see if it tightens everything up. Trans feels good but throw is way to long for the stock shifter. I am unable to adjust it properly. Bushings/coupler are good. ![]() ![]() Thank you,

Can't answer your question, having never been into my transmission before. But just a wild thought, the MacGiver in me: if a person knew the exact dimensional specs for the fork, perhaps a competent machine shop could weld and build the surface back up.
I get way out there sometimes, often out of necessity.

What shifter are you using.

Thank you all for the responses. I got it figured out. The trans is in a race car built off of a '79 SC chassis which I assumed had the stock shift rod, but after measuring turned out to be an early 901 shift rod. That explained why the car had a 901 shifter in it when I purchased it. I installed a factory 930 shifter and could not get it adjusted properly. I trimmed 1/4" off of the 901 shift rod and voila, all 4 gear plus reverse..... Learn something new every day.
For future reference to those researching, here is the difference between the 915 (unbolted) and 930 shift forks. The 915 is much smaller, but retains the same bolt pattern and distance between the forks. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
