I have thought about that too, but not come up with a solution. The reason being we boost between 0.5-1 bar. The smoke test machine I have runs at 3 psi. But a leak under boost could always be an issue. I have had the IC lifting.

Years ago I fabricated my usual MacGyver rendition smoke machine with a quart jar, a piece of nichrome wire wrapped around an oil soaked rag and powered by a battery charger, and air lines fitted to the lid fed off my air compressor. Dial in whatever pressure I wanted.

A couple of years ago when I was chasing inconsistent air fuel readings and poor running problems I bought a smoke machine off ebay. this was a last resort since I felt I had tried everything else. I ran several tests leading to a surprising diagnosis which I thought I had already cured, a split o ring in my up pipe from the turbo. I knew this was a problem area and had recently (carefully) replaced them. I couldn't find this leak any other way without smoke.
