Smile New 930 owner checking in...

Hi all.... I just picked up a new toy and thought I would let everyone see it.

It's an '83 930, previously owned by two different Doctors. The first Dr. bought the car new over in Germany, drove it there for a year, shipped it back to So. Cal. and then proceeded to use it as fair-weather weekend car. He kept it for about 15 yrs and then sold it to another surgeon that worked in the same hospital.

The last Dr used it as the first one did....as a sunny day grocery getter.......the P-car shop my wife works at (for 22 yrs now...) has been servicing it for at least 15 years and has a thick file on it.

It's got 52.8k on the odometer and some minor oil drips...which I'll be getting taken care of....it's presently still at my wifes shop getting all sorts of small details taken care of from the list she has put together (she's a Porsche chick thru & thru... )

Anyway here's few shots from the day I took it home to check out prior to buying it......

Its a beauty! They always look brand new when painted white. I have a question for any of you that may know the answer. I noticed that this car has the European side marker lights and so does my '87, even though mine is a USA model. Is that a normal thing? Or was it an option? I believe my car was originally purchased in Europe but was a US model. Is that a common thing if your car was delivered in Europe? I haven't been able to find any info about it.
Thanks

yes the side markers were an option if you look in the manual the electrical drawing list the option number. Also a lot of people added them there are existing plugs in the wiring harness to just plug them in. this car however is a row model which comes with the euro markers and the small bumperetts on the back.

Thanks guyz....she's still stock with the exception of a twin-out B&B muffler and a K&N a/f.

I should let everyone know that this actually is the wife's car....she sought it out and actually got down on the ground to check out the underside....remember...she really likes Porsches with open exhaust at the track....click on my link to my gallery to see my car...not a Turbo....but pretty well track oriented....

she sez in all her years in the P-car biz, not once has she seen another female driving a 930....and she wants to be the first.

anyway....just food for thought.

Pete, me being new to the world of 930 ownership I am still learning...everyday, I know my car has the Calif. DMV "referee" certification sticker on the door jam showing that it meets all Calif. emissions regulations.

I have checked and I know my car does not have a Cat and no thermal reactor exhaust system. It does have the original factory headers and a EGR valve though. Nothing else smog wise I can see on the car....had it smoged a couple weeks ago prior to driving it home and it passed no problem.

Any info or wisdom is always appreciated.

I don't know if the emission test here in Ga. is the same as the test where you are but I have earned from this forum that a real hard high boost run just before you enter the emission station will give you a good reading. I think it has something to do with the temp of the exhaust system and the way it vaporizes any unburned gasses. It has workwed for me two years in a row. My car has no cat or smog equipment on it.

Rudy:

Thanks for sharing your pre-emission check procedure, have to go get the GA test this week, currently without cat.

Here's a few update shots from the other day....had the wheels refinished to satin aluminum finish, installed a B&B Dual out muffler and lowered the front end .50"

All oil leaks have been fixed, removed broken old stereo + 50lb. amp/cd changer & 3 different car alarms + another 20 lbs of associated wiring - all gone.

...now the wife will finally drive it......

sorry for the delayed reply...too much holiday cheer

anyway, will likely leave it pretty much stock except for improving cooling capacity..... will be installing a I/C cooling fan as well as an add'l fan to pull air thru the a/c condenser.

Was looking at aftermarket air intakes and the jury is still out on that.....

Was out doing the So Cal New Years day drive and I think I have a .6 bar spring installed as that was as high as the boost would go....so I'll have to check that out....put in a .8 bar spring.

Since this is the wife's ride....and my once concours clean 911 is now a full blown track 'ho .....modding the 930 to any great extent is not in the cards as far as she is concerned.

I can't complain though, how many wives out there are nagging their husbands for a grey market 930 and insist on a dual out B&B muffler?
