Intercooler for Carrera 3.2 Intake with A/C Condensor

Does anyone know where I can buy an intercooler that will fit the 3.2 intake and accommodate the A/C condensor in the tail?

I know there are folks who have bought the full bay intercoolers from GoingSuperFast (and other places), and I see guys fabbing their own, but I've seen no mention of folks selling smaller IC's to accommodate the A/C.

I know I could reliocate the condensor and go with the full bay IC, but I'm not ready to do that. For background, I'm considering converting to EFI just for chuckles.

Thanks in advance.

If you design it, Bell Intercoolers will build it.

WydRyd 12-13-2006 01:14 PM

WOW, does your A/C work, with that p!ssy little condensor?

TurboBert 12-13-2006 05:39 PM

Yes, A/C works great - but I've had to put a butt load of work and $$ into it - but I digress.

Anyone know someone who has these ICs for sale?

WydRyd 12-13-2006 07:04 PM

The Kokeln should work. I think that has a 4" thick core, which would be OK on a Carrera manifold.

TurboBert 12-13-2006 08:41 PM

Merv,
Thanks for the suggestion. A Kokelin would be good, but I think the issue is with the discharge outlet relative to the throttle body of the intake. I need a discharge that is in the same plane as the IC core (see image).

I know these can be built by Bell on my specifications, as David suggests, and I'm sure I could modify the existing strock IC, but I was hoping to just buy one ready to go.

You know I'm surprised nobody make's one already to go for a 3.2 intake.

As more and more folks do this conversion there's becoming a real need for this. Give it a little while, I bet someone starts making them.

I believe this would work with a compressor and condensor. A friend of mine is going to try it woth the same IC.
this is GSF's for carrera. Fitt could be better but it's workable

I did look at the GSF intercoler. Albert at GSF told me, "Only problem for the conversion is the A/C condensor, you can put a thin condensor like the one in the picture or the left wheel wall."

So, I know this is an option, but I'm not looking for a full bay IC. I don't expect much more than the 300 hp I already have so there is no need to add the lag that a bigger IC would generate.

Also, I already have the Griffith's system with the left rear fender condensor but since I live in Hawaii, I need all the condensor I can get. Plus, I really don't want to be screwing around with the A/C since it is working well.

Fit one of those huge under-belly PerformanceAire condensors in.

Other option is to contact Chris Carroll (nice guy) of TurboKraft. I'm sure he has an IC design ready-made to suit the Carrera manifold.

jbrinkley 12-14-2006 04:39 PM

now I'm wondering if a carrera condensor will fit on top of this IC and under this tail I have comming back tomorrow from the paint shop. Phil, kspsg, plans on keeping his ac with this IC and a 3.3 base. Now I'm curious. tomorrow I'll set my old carrera condensor ontop with the new lid and see if it works.
BTW, if you want a 3.2 condensor you can have mine

TurboBert 12-14-2006 04:55 PM

Jerry,
Thanks for the offer - if it will work I may take you up on that but I think placing the condensor over the intercooler is probably a bad idea. The condensor would only pre-heat the air to the IC.

As an aside, Albert at GSF mentioned that the condensor you see in the picture is about 1/2 inch thick. That's pretty damned thin, so I am skeptical about there being room for anything stock.

jbrinkley 12-15-2006 04:31 PM

what was I thinking, there's no way any condensor will fit here

man I can not believe you spoke with some one over there I called 10 times with no return phone calls even after I bought 3 IC from including jerry's and phils

TurboBert 12-16-2006 07:10 AM

I didn't actually call them, I did it through e-mail. Maybe that will get you better results. Albert was incredibly responsive.

yeah never an email response either after many of them sent oh well I got our IC's anyhow

Here's what one guy in FLA did several years ago when he installed a C2T intercooler. I think it's a Carrera AC condensor. This plus your front mounted condensor should do it. Or just adding a belly pan condensor should do it.

I was thinking about putting in a condenser like that. I've got 4 or 5" at the back of the tail that's clear of the intercooler.

tsuter 12-26-2006 05:20 AM

With a turbo tail......condenser...go big or go home....4" is plenty of room.

Those silly little fender condensers at $400-500!!! Not to mention what an underbody will cost....

You can put a 15"x30" condenser in the tail with two fans for under $300.....
