Mine is 167 top and I find it on the edge as is. Need aspirin after about an hour on the freeway. I think I need a better muffler.

Ooohhh.. I think it sounds great at 3500 or so...plus you can always step up the 4th gear a bit. As far as tracking the car, in my area a street turbo is not going to see 145 at Sears/Infineon , Laguna and would probably be just right for Thunderhill .

Before EFI & engine rebuild/upgrade, I was seeing 6200rpm @ the Glen before the bus stop

Maybe I'll need taller gear now with, hopefully, more ooomph...

I TOO HAVE SHORTEN THE GEARS IN THE 4 SP BOX. I TOP OUT AT 145, AND WITH 390RWHP IT GET THERE REAL FAST. KEPT 1ST, AND CHANGED 2, 3 AND 4. MUCH HAPPIER, AND TREMEDOUSLY RESPONSIVE.

I COMMUTE MINE DURING THE SUMMER 103 MILES RT. ALL HWY, AND THE BUZZ GOT TO ME (B&B W/FABSPEED SINGLE) SO I REMOVED THE FABSPEED AND REPLACED WITH A COMBO OF BORLA/MAGNAFLOW. MUCH MORE QUIET, BUT LOST 15HP, DOWN TO 375... PLENTY FOR THE STREET.

What are everyone's thoughts on the short geared R&P modification? I have one sitting in my closet that I was able to get for a song last year. Just can't decide whether or not to install that or new gears when my box gets opened up this year.

Using a 915 my top end is about 150mph @ 7000rpm. First gear is generally useless but the rest are just right. You do change gears a lot but they are very quick and you are always in boost. The tires take a beating.

I'm getting ready to try out a Euro 915 with a higher 4th and 5th gear. Should make for a nice highway ride.

It stands to reason that your gear spacing should match your torque curve and power output. If you have an engine that puts out more than 400HP you probably don't want an 8:39 R&P in your 4spd.

What R&P gears are you running too?
What was the cost to change out 2,3, and 4th gear ratios?
Seems like a R&P swap is alot cheaper overall.

new 4th 29:23, or 0.793 (stock is 32:20, or 0.625)... good to 145

The R&P sells for ~$2K new, and most shops charge another $1K to install, so changing 3 gears (2,3,4) would be the same or cheaper, and generally works better, as the R&P swap tends to make 1st too short, especially in a modified car.

+1 (first gear, useless) Do a R&P and then change first gear to a numerically lower gear ratio.

Is there a good rebuild manual published for rebuilding a 930 transmission?

Also, any factory book with pics and specs will help.
