Removing factory muffler
 

I have an early muffler (no cat) on my 930 that I installed when I had the engine out of the car. Made it very easy. Now I want to remove the muffler to install a different one. Does anything need to come off to get to the rear nuts? Any special curved wrenches required? This does not seem like it is going to be easy to remove. The good thing is the nuts are not rusted as I just installed the muffler to remove the cat. Any thoughts?

Aside from regular box wrenches and sockets, I think I used one or both of a shorty and an offset box wrench on the 2 forward nuts.

Did you have to remove the rear valance or any engine sheet metal?

On my car, you cannot get at the nuts on the flange as the two exit pipes on the stock muffler completely blocks access to them from underneath, and there's no way around them with the valance in the way...

Having just removed an obscenely-loud (and small) muffler and offered up the stock item as a replacement is not the best time to realize that the valance now has to be removed to bolt it up... :D

No engine tin needed to be disturbed. though.

I have always removed my rear bumper. Just be careful with the license plate light wiring. I installed a plug in my wires so the bumper could come off more easily.
