considering 930 Purchase

I am seriously considering a 930.A dream car of mine for over 20 years.I have owned 3 911s ('77 911S,'88 carrera, and now an '81 SC) in the past and know and understand (LOVE) these cars.I am aware of the extra expense of the 930 as far as parts etc.I try to do all the work myself on my Porsche's but have not done any lower end engine rebuilds (yet).Any and all info would be appreciated. And if you have a 930 for sale please let me know.

Damn, you had an '88 Carrera with the nice G50 5spd and existing EFI! You should have turbocharged that instead! You wouldn't have had the nicer 930 turbo brakes and widebody stance though, but still, there are some high-powered aftermarket turbocharged Carerra's running around on this Forum developing some serious gut wrenching power

Ah well... happy hunting for a 930 then and post some pics when you've found "the one". Make sure you get a proper and thorough PPI done on the car and take the usual precautions (CarFax) etc... good luck

'87 930

Hey guys,I found a 1987 930 that I am interested in.It looks like a very nice car,77k miles,silver/black,but it has a 450 HP Powerhaus Motor w/16k miles on it.Would you consider this motor to be reliable ,as reliable as a stock motor ?The car has a new clutch/gearbox w/ 6k miles on it.
Any thoughts are appreciated

I would say that buying the 450 HP car would put you ahead of the game. It has been my experience that once a person buys something like a 930 turbo then the next thing that comes is hmm... how can I get a performance boost. at 450 HP that has been taken somewhat out of the equation... just my opinion.

thanks Larry ! The car has had a complete engine rebuild by Powerhaus which appears to be a very reputable turbo Porsche engine builder.I love the car,I just have not owned a 930 and am somewhat scared of reliability, extreme expense etc.I am learning all I can fast,as I am in the market NOW......

bro buy it! I just picked up a 1980 930 3.3l w/ powerhaus mods and the thing is a time machine.it is scary fast like everyone else on the road is standing still. a lot of parts for the car are cheaper than my 95 jetta glx,and you can usually pick them up on here or e-bay. my wife is jealous of the car because im always in the garage tinkering or researching something. I have always wanted a 930 since I set eyes on 1 .I almost went for a SC but just went for the 930 and couldnt be more happier. I wish I did it sooner. dont delay get it!

I read the thread twice but I see no indication of the price. What are they asking?

I had Powerhaus build a motor for me 10 years ago. It was great except for some reason they painted the inside of the sump plate. It took it 8 years but the paint finally flaked off and plugged some oil passages. Ruined rocker arms, cams etc etc. Why they would have painted anything inside the engine is beyond me.

A previous owner of my car had a Powerhaus engine. BOOM!!! & he sold the car after he got a stock engine slapped into it.
