No numbers. no data - just how bloody fast & fun these 930s are!
What are your subjective impressions of how quickly your 930 can accelerate? Yesterday was a wake-up call/reminder... :p
During this long winter - with a lot of snow and rain - the 930 manages to get out in the dry about once every 3 weeks. If that. Beautiful 60 degree weather yesterday! My daughter and I were on 405 yesterday for a fun run & on the way to do a few errands. Dropped it into 4th and full throttle at 60 mph to change lanes/make a pass onto a right hand exit lane off 405 to Bellevue. GOOD GOD, it seems as if all the cars we were right in back of just a few seconds ago........disappeared. It literally seemed as if we fell down a slope with everyone else at the top, watching. Due to the stiff track suspension, the sensation of speed isn't there as much as the objective acceleration rate. It Just Goes. These things are ungodly fast. Felt *just* like this: http://www.bellomotorsports.com/video/MVI_0608.avi How would you describe your 930? |
When folks ask how fast my car is, I tell them it does 0-30 in about 3 seconds... but it does 30-60 in about 1 second :D

The part I like the best on the road is how extremely effortless the acceleration is at any speed. The power that is available is sufficient to confidently place you anywhere you want to be in regular moderate traffic. I don't think I have driven like Eddie Bello in the video. But then again, I don't really know how it looks to the ones being passed.
This winter would have been ideal for lots of driving since it has been more sunny and dry this winter than it usually is in NC. I was anticipating a normal winter and had taken my car to a local Porsche workshop (SpeedWerks) for some modifications while doing a complete rebuild of the engine, and a CIS to Motec M48 conversion. |
Right on. Above about 3,200 rpm - just "push and go".
The acceleration is just mind blowing. No down shift required for moderate passes or acceleration, and a one-gear drop for warp speed movement. |
The other nite i was being paced (75 mph)by a Cadilac SUV and I cracked it in 3rd and was blown away how fast he shrunk in my sideview. But the flipside is its a cool car to drive under 3500 rpm just for other peoples reactions. Than you have the people that want to ride your ass,but if you were in a Kia they would'nt mess with you . Its crazy how these cars get such a reaction

Im not into street racing either but sometimes you have to measure what you have. At a red light I will not get into it ,2nd or 3rd is a different story. I was always told that in Germany 1st gear is just to get the car rolling and I try to respect that along with the power of this awesome machine.

No, I wasn't implying that you did. I just find it funny that all others leave me alone except Mustang owners.

All stock 930 here w/ 4 speed....
What kind of power do you get in top gear, cruising at 75 mph, upon mashing throttle? Mine is ho hum, the stock 3DLZ needs to be tossed for sure. |

My car is happy in 3rd gear. 4th gear is useless unless Im on the interstate. No Mark Im not offended, I was just babbling about my past weekend. Something little will piss me off about the car (I think to myself I'll just park it for awhile)but then I find myself drawn back to it worse than a piece of ass. I think Im gonna have to put away to to my clutch ,Im getting a noise when i release it . But Once again I'll get over it drop it and get back on the road again.

I think I have a stage 1 ******** with a 4spd

The way my 930 is set up, it has really low gears and a top speed at red line of about 150, so anytime I am in the boost at all the car launches like you hit the fast forward button on a VCR.
I also have no catalysts and unrestricted exhuast, so the car makes a really loud screaming noise when I am on the boost, which again is almost always because of the low gearing. Basically any speed over 25 mph and my car tends to be sucking boost air and howling. So my wife and I have a running joke, whenever I drive the car, she asks where I went, and I always reply "I went SCREAMING here" or "I SCREAMED over to the shop" or "I went SCREAMING down to Jimbo's house". We think it's funny as hell. She asks me questions just so I can tell her I screamed somewhere in my 930. |
New guys quad D & OMS - let's see some pictures!

I live in the Seattle area, like Craig. Yesterday was indeed a fine day for 930 maintenance driving. Got her up to operating temp and stayed there awhile, mostly just cruising. Hit it once on an on ramp. The rush is still there ;). Only got to .6 bar, but that was enough for that ol' slingshot feeling.
Every time I drive this car off the track I'm reminded about how useless most of its power is on the street if you want to stay anything near legal. Just when the fun starts you have to lift or the car feels like it will start warping time. Made me eager for spring, though. After all the struggle I went through over the years getting this car right, it sure is good to just get in it and go, and get back with nothing weird happening with the engine or tranny or anything else. Knock on wood. |

I like the instant "respect" this car gets ! I have a black 930s with open pipe right off the turbo and straight pipe off the wastegate . Pulling in a parking lot gets alot of looks and on the road it is like parting the red sea .

Anyhow, these pictures were taken before any modifications of my own: http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/600/9301ix3.jpg http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/1248/9303og6.jpg http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/8538/93012ri2.jpg |
My car is 0.60mp/h in about 4.2s to about 4.4sec. So its pretty quick.
What I like, besides the incredibly beautiful lines: 1) VERY tractable around town and can be very docile 2) How 140mp/h is so composed and scarry how the car will stay there indefinitely 3) How the car taunts you, to see if you have bigger balls that it! Yasin |
Olli--
That is a sweet ride. Your ride seems planned to be very similar to mine. What are the details on that turbo you plan to use--trim, A/R, etc.? I've been thinking of going that way... What hp and torque peaks are you looking for? I had those Ruf wheels myself, or at least ones that looked identical. Saved 44 lbs of unsprung weight by going to Fikses, though so I reluctantly parted with them. But these look newer, so maybe they are comparatively lighter? |
