tubo 6 cyl in a 914

I was wondering how hard it would be to get airflow through an intercooler if someone put a turbo engine in a 914. I have just purchased a 75 914 that I am going to do the standard 916 clone look to .... However, I am bouncing back and fourth between 3.6 and turbo engine for it. (Even thought of the v8... but I decided to stick with porsche power... )

I want the 914 to be at least a little faster than my 74 911 but I guess I could just go for the 3.6 and try to get the weight down to under 2k pounds. .. my 911 weights 2385. Something in the 400 hp range sounds more attractive though and I do have most of the turbo parts already.

There was a killer one in Excellence a few years ago. He ran the IC exposed in an intetegrated spoiler. A little hardcore looking but still cool and was killer. The tranny might get pricey to make it live

What r u thinking: flipped 915 or 930?

I am thinking flipped 915 with a lsd ... probably an 85 / 86 version with the big axle flanges.

turbo 914

No need to search I hang out here, Here is my new 914 powerplant, and my old. the intercooler is fed air via a duct in the spoiler and air is pulled through it with 2 7" fans.

The fans have a duel purpose as they are ducted to blow air through the transmission cooler also.

Chappy,

That can't work. Your primaries are way too long and not wrapped. Between the IC and all that plumbing it must take 5 seconds to come on boost All said tongue and cheek from my long discussion with a Porsche "builder" last night.

Don't fret, my system won't work either so I was told

Love the 914 it has tempted me to sway that direction each time I've seen it posted.

Surprising I have never noticed the lag, it comes on plenty quick with the K27. A lot may have to do with the fact I have short gears and the engine pulls good even off boost. My old 3.0 setup had an old Rayjay boosting at 8lbs that didn't spool till about 3500rpm but it still was a thrill ride at close to 350hp.
Look at Clewetts car, I am told his car is very fast, and he has engineered long runs also.

I built my car for the street as a fun project, and never got carried away with maximizing the performance to perfection. But i must say the system I cobbed together works really well, better than I could ever imagined. With this new engine it might be down right scary till i get used to it.

Spring appears a long ways away after the blizzard we had the other day. So the maiden test drive is still a ways away. The car should be close to being finished in a few months, the body shop is getting ready to put the final top coat on it soon.

I was just pulling your chain since so many guys are against long equal length headers on turbo cars. Many have doubted the effectiveness of SSI turbo applications. I really wasn't meaning any of the razzying, just the compliments. Like I said above, your car is inspirational to all the DIY guys.

Lincoln, isnt it nice to see that your parts are being put to good use.

What boost were you running with the euro fuel dizzy and intake when it was on your engine.

Why not just do an air to water intercooler. It would be easier to package. You put the intercooler in the engine bay and route the water lines up to the front of the car and run a couple of small radiators on either side of the opening for the oil cooler.

Check out PWR barrel type air-water intercoolers. Run a single or a pair depending on your setup.

I doubt my engine will ever see sustained boost, just bursts as it is a street car. The intercooler I have flows 1080CFM gets plenty of fresh air away from the engines heat and will probably never see very high ambient temps.
With the short gears the cars a rocket, I run out of gears pretty quick.
With the new engine it should be even quicker!
