Things never to do with old fuel pump !

Decided to "test" old front pump to see if it was as bad out of car . Well old pumps make great gas powered rocket motors from left over fuel fumes. That sucker went about five feet !!!

How did it ignite- did the brushes/comutator spark make it happen?

HAAA!

Guess you didn't know that the liquid fuel is used to cool the pump (and prevents combustion until air hits it). I'll bet you filled your drawers on that one!

When I read about how that pump works I was quite surprised. Is it possible for the pump not to be vented properly when replacing it ? BOOM

All I know is don't try it ! I put in a sx pump in front and removed the rear pump installing a fuel pressure gauge sender unit where the rear pump was and put the gauge in dash. Now I can make sure I can go full boost with out lean issue due to lack of fuel .

Steve - great idea on the pressure gauge. Any pictures or details on the parts used?

This pressure sender is an electric type? Or did you plumb a hose to the gauge? In that case, an isolator is highly recommended; http://www.longacreracing.com/instructions/inst.asp?instid=75

It is electric sender I bought a brass double female threaded 2' long nut and two brass plugs ( all 5/8 american thread ) and I tapped a metric thread in the plug and I drill and tapped the brass female fitting in the center for the sender unit. Used a good pipe lock/ thread sealent and put the cover back on. I do have a question, On the front pump cover. If I leave the cover off do those bolts hold the anti-sway bar in position ? I drove it around the block and with the cover off and it seems a little wierd it grabs all the road cracks and it never did it before .

There should be some links that go between the rack and the pan, which on some cars also holds the sway bar. The cover just protects the underside of the car there and isn't absolutely necessary.

sx-performance.com is a aerospace company that 's buy product is high performance pumps. Instead of purchasing two $ 500.00 bosch pumps I purchased one $ 300.000 pump from them. It is a piece of art work !
