Just out of curiosity, why are Porsche Bosch O2 sensors so damned expensive?

Will any 3 wire O2 sensor work? If so, are there different applications for each (heat, range, etc.)

What is the difference between a $20 3-wire O2 sensor and $175 Porsche 3-wire sensor?

I ask because I am pretty sure mine has gone bye bye, and I plan on replacing it with the addition of the heatshield most folks add for the LM-1 type sensors. I don't want to overheat this one either.

There's a special tax you pay when the product has "Porsche" in the description.. it's called P-tax :D :mad:

Here are some good reading material on O2 sensors. Unfortunately, nothing 930 specific. I have a Bosch 13913 on my 3.2 to save a couple bucks and it works fine. I don't know why it would be any different with a 930. Except for heat maybe.

Couldn't you just disconnect it and adjust the AFR manually?

If you replace it with some other Bosch Sensor and it works out for you, let us know which one you used.

Mark... do you have emissions testing in Canada..if not I would think you could run the system in open loop and adjust CO mixture to 2.5-3%. The frequency valve will default to 50% duty cycle. But then this begs the question of will you remove all the other emissions stuff on the car.

Emissions no longer apply to my car (20 year rule) so that's not a concern. Since I live in the city and about half of my driving is done in the city, I like the 'performance' difference with it connected. I find that the car runs smoother through to 2500RPM with it connected.

At WOT, the car runs fine with or without since that circuit is bypassed. I do plan on tuning the car since I now have an Lm-1. I'll tune it for good AFR's at WOT and then reconnect the sensor afterwards.

Generic Bosch sensors are the same as OE less the specific harness plug. The generic sensors come with a well designed solderless splicing kit which you use with your own plug. I used them to replace the four sensors on a '97 Twin Turbo and it has worked perfectly for two years.

I believe the O2 sensor on your 930 is the same as for the same year Carrera...Bosch OE part# 13924 and Bosch Generic # 15735.

Yes Rick they are.. the reason behind all this is that last year when I replaced with a generic, It went bad after the car ran hot one day (that could be a coincidence though). I had replaced the GHL headers, and the O2 position is much closer to the turbo as well. So I think I will put this one on with an additional heat shield I will make out of a copper T fitting for plumbing.
