Which K 27 Turbo Charger?

1987 911 Turbo basically stock for Now.

1 bar Spring
Fabspeed Muffler
BMC Intake

My 3DLZ turbocharger leaks a bit of oil (enough to smoke a tad)and I want to replace it with a K 27 series. I will eventually rebuild the motor and warm it up moderately with better cams. My question is what model K 27 will provide the best performance considering what my car is now and in the future. The future being headers, possibly a better IC if required, performance cams and bullet proof the low end. Also I would like a smooth and linear throttle response because my wife likes to drive it also.
I don't wont it to be to conservative but fast and female drivable...

Noteworthy: Have you guys ever heard how your wife will get asked regularly what year your turbo is when shes driving it...Me never! Interesting?

I put the FUCHs on it... Almost new Kenisis K27 wheels for sale with tires! $2K

I'd give Stephen a call at www.imagineauto.com and see what he recommends with your current and future plans.

I thought we've discussed this on your other threads?
930 AFR? To Be or Not to Be?
As discussed, you must address the fueling...

Talk to Stephen and Kevin (who makes the actual turbos)

Craig,

That thread was a AFR thread that went everydirection. I was hoping that this thread would focus on various k27 series turbos and what owners felt about there performance. Come on to strong early or too late Etc. Every issue on these threads have been discussed somewhere before. I just thought it would be informative to hear from many on this performance issue and their experiences. What model K27 are you runnin? you said something about changing it????why..??. I also posted a picture of my good old girl...shes still sexy and got what it takes...Shes 20 years old.

It did, didn't it?

Without a doubt a K27 HF or HF-S.
These pump a LOT of air, and in my opinion if you get the HFS be very prepared for fueling changes as a must do. But maybe I'm wrong.

Please DO write Stephen and tell of your plans and ask him:

Recall the discussion about the adjuatable WUR / RPM switch / possible fuel head ?

It all depends on your mission.......what do you want - hp, usage, emissions in CA etc etc etc

K27 HFS has the most BHP potential. It also offers good spool up due to a more modern, efficient wheel.

Not sure if you guys are hearing Bob wrong, or if I am.
I think he said he wanted to beef it up a bit, but not too much, as his wife enjoys driving the car as well.
So now,,,,,,,
Forget the HF or the HFS, and any fuel head mod as well.
Just my opinion here, but a K27S (IA Custom) with SC or SC330 Cams, Headers, Fabspeed muffler, intake and the 1 Bar spring is going to put a smile on your face, and your wife can still cruise on Sunday with ease. The car will be very reliable and mild until you wake it up with the Boost.
Bob, I took the time to go back and read your original post and I agree with you that it went several directions, I think starting this New thread was fine.
Now if I get blasted here, Fine, but this board if for people with questions and people who enjoy chatting with others, we should not be so quick to say DO A SEARCH. Has everyone forgot what it was like to be a Newbie? What am I saying here, I am still a Newbie, but my Carrera will run with a stock 356 any day of the week,,,,,,,.

If you are worried about your wife driving it then control the boost with a electronic boost controller.
I am using a Tial with a 0.5bar spring. I will then adjust boost up to 1bar max using my ebc. I might let my Fiance drive it at 0.5bar

The great thing about mods is the improvement in drivability. A new turbo and headers will do this.

I have a Euro 76. The first mod 22 years ago was a Garretson IC. Then a K-27. 10 years later I went with SC cams 3.2 PC's headers and a bunch of other stuff. I kept the stock muffler because the shop that did the work told me it was pretty open anyway.

Then last spring I had Imagine do a complete rebuild. The only changes I made were going with a K-27HFs and a Fabspeed muffler. It transformed the car. Everyone that had been for rides before couldn't believe the difference. And over all that time my wife still occasionally drives it and loves it.

I've been running various KKK-turbo's in my Porsches and the latest in my '82 911 RUF Turbo is my all time favourite:

The engine is 1989 930 with multiple modifications:

-RUF build Turbo engine with KKK-27/32
-C-group sylinders and pistons
-B-group 12plug-heads and camshafts
-3 oil coolers in front
-RSR-ingnition unit
and much more.

The most important thing is, that by having very reliable racing engine (even under heavy foot and high boosts) now it really starts to work early (in 2500-2700rpm) and keep especially the Nm nicely up all the way to 7300rpm (the engine can handle 7900rpm). I prefer it a lot, because I have 4 very long gears in my shortcase (4th can theoretically carry me up to 345km/h with 7500rpm), the fastest GPS result so far has been 322km/h and still having 3,7sec 0-100km/h with first gear.
The engine with 27/32 push nice 580rwHp and +600rwNm with 1,2bar. It can handle much more (we have a dyno results of 1,8 bars), but just now the engine gives the best response for track use handling and still nice " drop dead" street acclelration
When playing with very well breathing turbo engines be sure that your waste gate and dump valve are working very sure and properly and you easily save an angeine or two. BTDT.
I have altogether an old school Le Mans combo build with an old fashioned 935 dual waste gate with 0,6bar spring. This is the setup for my wife (although she rather drives 951) with 460 rwHp with it.

In my 951 I have also dual waste gate with 0,8bar spring and KKK 27/28 with many other engine modifications and I prefer that also (with 337rwHp / 470rwNm/1,3bar ) and I really studied that rebuild your engine thing twice .
My winter car Ur-quattro kicks out 428 rwHp with considerably large Holset Turbo and very high 1,8bar boost. This one my wife doesn't like at all.

Still I prefer most my 911 with KKK 27/32 .
