Mechanic Ref.

I have been lurking for some time here and decided to sign in today. I noticed that most folks here like to help out others with just about anything Porsche related. I also learned that even dumb questions are not frowned upon. Nice forum.

My question is more local. (Green Oaks Il. 60048) I am looking for a local mechanic that is fair and doesn't mind working with an old 77 930 with a few upgrades. My car is out of storage and the idle is all over the place. Not to mention that when I touch the vac line going to the dist the idle races even higher.

I am not a mechanic, more of a tinkerer and parts replacer.

Any refs would be great. I know there is one in Barrington Il. but for the life of me I can 't recall his shop name.

Mike,
Thanks for the ref. That is the name as I recall. The guy I spoke to a year ago was pretty cool and ready to do what it took to get my 930 running smoothly. Seemed like a real straight shooter.
Thanks for the memory boost.
Eric

Midwest Performance Cars maintains my 930. They have a great 911 mechanic. Downside for you would be that they are in downtown Chicago.

BTW, a lot of us here aren't mechanics and just like to tinker with our cars... I'm sure you'd be able to find the help here and on the Rennlist Turbo Forum to be able to fix this yourself, whilst at the same time, save some cash and learn a great deal about how your motor works by DIY

I like the idea of trying to fix it myself. Just not sure where to start first. I was thinking of finding some books on the engine itself. I think I have some old stuff in there that has caused a few vaccuum leaks.Maybe it isn't that simple, but it's a start!
Thanks for the advice.
