Voltage regulator

Can anyone tell me where the voltage regulator is located in my car? According to our host, I should have a Marchal 55W Alternator with an external regulator, but where is it? I have a problem where I can drive the car fine for a couple of hours but the next day it won't start. I'll crank the engine and the tach bounces all over the place but the engine won't fire. I'll try a day or two later and it fires. This process repeats itself every time. I've heard faulty regulators will cause the tach to go wild so I want to check it out.

In the engine compartment (drivers side), right next to your CDI control box.

Thanks, I'm both happy and upset that it was that easy

If that doesn't cure the problem, check the connections at the CD box. My car had the exact same symptom and it had one green spade connector in the gang plug.

The cdi unit is another thing I'm looking at. It's difficult to test though.
