Question Plug life?

How often are you guys changing your spark plugs?

I know the Platinum W3DPO's last VERY long, but what about the copper type plugs? Should be able to get a good 15k - 20k miles out of them, right?

What are you gapping your plugs at Merv? My buddy that I always speak of with the 1000 hp twin turbo gaps them really small like 21 or 22.

The more boost you run, the smaller the gap.

I'm dropping my gaps down to 0.032" shortly and will see how that goes. I get some misfiring at 1.15bar using 0.035" gaps

That Galant Vr-4 that I used to beat the crap out of; when I was running 27 psi through it I ran .025 and she never pinged. That plus I yanked timing and bombarded it with fuel.

Interesting! From my research thus far, a majority of high powered big boost turbo motors run a plug gap below 0.030", so I think I may give that a try. All I want is reliable and consistent igniton at 1.25 - 1.3bar

It seems that even all the later model turbo's, from the 993TT to the 997TT all run 0.032" plug gaps from factory, so I think ~0.030" would be fine in my application with the Crane Fireball CDI.

Yup, better safe than sorry. The other advantage of running a colder plug is to reduce likelihood of detonation. I know the 3 range is too cold for street, but I like the extra insurance it provides, even though plugs tend to foul quicker
