Fuel pump shutoff intermittent - need electical diagram for '86 930?

About a month ago I had a problem of the engine shutting down under boost 4K Rpm. I check and changed all of the relays including the yellow one. I even changed the over boost sensor and it seemed to run OK. Less than 50 miles later it is starting to show the same symptoms again. I'll be running down the hwy in 3rd gear, punch it as the boost gets to 1.1 and he RPM varies from 4K to 5K and the engine shuts down. As I am coasting in gear the engine starts back up again.

I have a 3" vac. boost Gage and it appears to go to 1.1-.2 under full boost. (I was told the car had a 1 bar spring?)

I am thinking it is an electrical problem.

Tomorrow I am going to try a few more things:

1. Check to make sure the fuse connections for the fuel pump are clean.
2. Ground the new over boost switch just to take it out of the equation.
3. Lastly check the diaphragm in the Waste gate

Any other suggestions.

A wiring diagram for an '86 930 would help. Someone from this site emailed me a number of pages for an '89 but they were not readable.

When I bought my 87 factory slantnose 930, it came with a brand new still in the box, unopened two volume "911 Turbo Workshop Manual". I took it out for the first time tonite and see that one volume contains a complete set of wiring diagrams in color broken down into sub-sections labeled "Model 77 through Model 89" There are so many different diagrams that I don't know which one would be of use to you. I would be willing to try to get you a copy of the right one....but the some of the pages open up into a tri-fold. I'm sure that one of these would be exactly what you need....and logic tells me that the pages labelled Model 86 is what you're looking for.

The sub-section labelled Model 86 is broken down into the following categories: Ground terminals; Lamps; Heating and Ventilation; Radio, Alarm System and Lifting Roof; Engine (K Jetronic) O2 Sensing system; Instruments and Indicators; Connection and Equipment Fuses.

Why do you think you have an electrical problem?

From what you say, it sounds like you have an overboost problem and the electrical stuff is working as designed.

Do you hear the wastegate open?

Chuck,

Thanks for the offer. I plan to visit my local Porsche mechanic and look at his manuals. I may also go ahead and remove the waste gate and change out the spring to a .8 rather than the 1.0 that seems to give me 1.2 boost.

thanks for the input.

Steve: No problem. If after you see your mechanic you think you might still want a diagram, I could run down to Kinkos and have one run off for you and mail it to you.
