Porsche Crest idle ?

how long can you let a 911 turbo idle before it gets to hot?

These air cooled motors don't like to idle for extended periods of time. I know with my car, if I'm idling at a stand-still in traffic for extended periods (15+ minutes), I can see the oil temps rising and this directly affects performance and responsiveness from the motor.

i was just wondering because i was setting my timing and was letting it idle for 20 minutes and if i cracked the gas and my oil light came on when it down in rpm. i just switched to rotella 15w 40 and the oil gets real thin. the temp was around 100 degrees this is the hottest i seen this car run but summers right around the corner.

Do you have a numeric gage or the one with a couple of lines and then a red area? If you have the latter you can actually see tiny numbers on the outter edge of the lines if you put your eye at a severe angle and know where to look. The numbers are in *C. The line in the 9:00 horizontal spot or mid-gage is 105*C or 219*F.

Generally I believe anything above 230F is too hot. If it starts to creep up during tuning I take it out for a cool down run and then continue tuning if needed. You can also put a big fan on the front wheel well cooler.
100*C or 212*F is not a problem.
