Tires for an 88 930?
I need to find a set of tires for my 88 930 with stock 16X7&9's.
I have no idea of what tire or size to get. Can anyone reccomend some nice gripping all season tires (rain but no snow) and the sizes? Maybe cost as well. This is a strictly street car. Thanks- Craig Backer |

7's usually take 225's
9's usually take 265's I would just use what the handbook recommends.

Spence......
I thought 205/225 combo was for 6's and 7's....not for 930's....I believe Nathan is correct......

I might be wrong saying this but I thought all the 930's had 205 up front and 245 at the rear regardless of the later wider rear wheels.
I do suggest using what the handbook says though. EDIT: Just got out my handbook, euro '81 930. Front 7x16 205/55 and Rear 8x16 225/50. So, we were all wrong ![]()

Re: Tires for an 88 930?

I see from the responses to this thread that everyone is assuming that you are only interested in running the EXACT stock specs from a twenty year old car. If so, then run the 205s. If you want to know what most people seem to like, it is 225/50 and 245/45. The tire selection is pretty bad, I would look at the Bridgestones at tirerack if you want longevity or the Hankooks at discount tires if you want a sticky performance tire which will wear quicker but work better at a track. Everything else tends to be bargain basement stuff. |

Has anyone bumped up a size on the stock Euro16x 7 & 8" fuchs?
I am looking to keep the stock wheels but bump up a size from the factory 205 & 225 tire sizes. How would 225/50 & 245/50 work? Any recommendations? Thanks guys.

87 930...just bought a new set of Toyo Tr-1s. They were less expensive than some others... I was trying to get Falken FK 451/2 but could not find the rear size in stock... the toyos were offered up as a better tyre. I run Eagle F-1 on my series 7 and I like the v-tread pattern as opposed to straight line tread patterns. the previous set that came with the car had the Continental Conti's with the straight line tread... when I would take tight turns I would feel the tread flex a little... The Toyos have the V-pattern and a side wall support design that adds more stiffness to the center v-tread.. so far I like them....now once the tyres were mounted the owner starts showing me Fiske wheels that I could install ( 17 or 18 in) that he said would open up the selection of tyres.....I told him he was too late...if only he had made his move earlier......
yes tires are getting difficult to find for these cars.....

A 245/50 might work, I just don't really know if you will like having the extra sidewall. Kind of cuts down on the performance, I would think. I imagine with either size rear on an 8 inch rim, you may want to run a decent amount of air pressure to keep the tire from being squishy on a 8 inch rim. |

I run Sumitomo HTR-ZII18" tyres on my daily driver and they are pretty good I must say.
