VIN and sheetmetal stampings

Can someone tell me if the title VIN and the sheetmetal stampings/tags are to match exactly? The car I'm looking at has differences but matches exactly for the last 7 digits.

Thanks,
Scott

Well, they should but some early cars have had issues with the title saying one year and the VIN saying another so anything is possible. I would be very suspect if they aren't the same though.

It's an '89 if that helps...

Title reads WPOJB0934kxxxxxxx
Front trunk sheet metal stamp reads WPOZZZ93ZKxxxxxxx

all the x's match exactly

Your sheetmetal stamp located near the smugglers box will read WP0ZZZ... because all bodies started out as ROW versions at the factory. As the 930 assembly continued, if the build sheet included USA specific options/safety requirements/emissions it became a WP0JB0...and delivered only to the USA. The winshield post tag and drivers side door sticker should reflect this transformation. Make sure the build sequence numbers match!
