What Color Is this?

I know its tough to judge from a picutre but does anyone know what this color is and the paint code? I'm going to try to get it by a bodyshop to have them scan the paint but I have the rear bumper off right now waiting on my new exhaust

Well it didn't go as planned. I had the shop look for paint code L36P with no luck and then I mentioned 35U and he found it. I had them paint a small piece of metal for me to match up once I got home. On the way I kept looking at the piece they painted and said to myself that's the color, wrong when I got home to match it up it was darker and to much metallic in it.

I'm going to take my headlight ring tomorrow to show them this time the true color I need them to match.

Did you try 32Z Glacier Blue or 661 Slate Blue? Both are 1983-1984 colors, but it could be a paint to order car. 1986 colors worth looking at are 33P Iris blue and 33X Prussian Blue. Just my 2 cents. I apologize in advance if I'm out of line.

PS_paint matching hardware prefers a flatter surface; I think they might struggle with a h/l ring. I got a decent match to GP white with a mirror.
See apology above if I am full of $#!t.

Thanks for your input but at this time I'll just wait to see what happens once they use the scanner to try to read the paint.

You mentioned on another board that the color code was 999 (paint to sample). Where did you get that code? On the inside of the passenger front fender in the front trunk? There's a sticker there that'll tell you the color. Odd that Venetian Blue would be a special order color in 1986, but a standard color in 1987. If you look in the Porsche Redbook, though, it'll tell you what colors were standard in which years.

FWIW, your car looks a lot like mine.

edit: Don't forget that even if you were mixed up a batch of "Venetian Blue," it might not match your car due to 20 years of wear-and-tear on the paint. Here's a blurry shot of my paint code decal:

I got the code from under the hood L999. When I spoke with Porsche I was told they have no way to tell me what color the customer used.

If Porsche didn't put the code somewhere in the car that has to be the dumbest thing they could have done.

My "999" code car still has the paint code sticker on the pasengers side trunk wall. IF you have a factory color (form a different year like I do) the code should be there. IF it is a true paint to sample, then color matching is your only choice.

Cheers

I'll look for it tomorrow. Do I need to pull the carpet back to find it?

I know this sounds gay as hell but I think I love you I found it this morning right where you said it would be. I knew it had to be there somewhere. When I spoke with Porsche last week she told me paint codes L999 are custom match paint but I told her this would be the dumbest thing Porsche could have done not putting that code somewhere in the car.

So it seems its called Slate blue metallic L661/X6

Noah930 Thanks a million
