RUF intercooler re-do, clean up and replumb project

1) Glass bead blasted the RUF intercooler - took 1.5 hrs - P21S wax on top
2) Cleaned up wiring for the RPM full boost enrichment delay switch
3) Adjusted the WUR to lower the warm control pressure for a bit more rich in the midrange
4) NAPA has a silicone paste which is ideal for sealing the IC rings
5) Rerouted/replumbed the 'IC in' temp sender from the air cleaner to the IC inlet

Very nice...I need to pick up some of that Syl Glyde...as I'm sure my fittings are dry...

mb911 05-31-2007 05:39 PM

did you clear the IC after blasting it? I would suggest it as it won't stay clean for long.

Craig 930 RS 05-31-2007 06:34 PM

Yeah, that was in my thoughts.

Which clear brand/type?

lite75 05-31-2007 06:45 PM

what did you end up doing with the innercooler you bought?

Dan

rsrfan 05-31-2007 06:46 PM

Craig,
did you bail on the Blown Six?

Craig 930 RS 05-31-2007 06:55 PM

Looks like it - I bought EVERYTHING to install it - I mean every piece of OE Porsche parts required.......and due to the rearward placement of my particular engine it just flat out does not fit/clear the rear structure. Aaack...

Who wants a complete BlowSix 965 IC setup?

rsrfan 05-31-2007 07:00 PM

Time to tube frame the rear ala a 935. Your teetering on the edge anyway, right?

Craig 930 RS 05-31-2007 07:26 PM

I have the BlownSix right here.....it is a damn shame I can't install it.
On the edge is right ;-)

shaka 05-31-2007 07:34 PM

Hey Craig,

Are you really going to get rid of your 965 IC? I might be interested.

David

Craig 930 RS 05-31-2007 07:47 PM

I'm pretty certain.
What emission/cold start stuff do you still have?

lite75 05-31-2007 08:55 PM

Craig,
Interested in your intercooler as well.
Is your G50 shortened?

Dan

Jim2 05-31-2007 09:51 PM

Craig, too bad about the intercooler. I had been wondering when you were going to install it.

Roughly how far rearwards is your engine versus stock?

You said you waxed your intercooler. I did something similar to my intakes after bead blasting them and their appearance has stayed static since last fall and still no water stain marks. So far so good.

Edit: Is your breather hose to the oil reservoir kinked or is it OK. It looks like it may be kinked in the first picture.

mb911 06-01-2007 04:11 AM

I found that just krylon clear works pretty well. I have even done a light dusting of silver from 14-16 inches away then apply clear 5 minutes later and it look like a stock aluminum casting. works really well

Craig 930 RS 06-01-2007 05:26 AM

G50 has been modified, but the engine was placed perhaps an inch max rearwards for clearance/fitment.

Thus, either the IC size must be smaller in general, or the IC inlet tubes or tank widths must be fairly custom sized.

Some time in the future I'll post the BlownSix and the entire setup -

GaryR 06-01-2007 06:39 AM

Craig -
Eastwood makes a great clear that holds up well in the engine compartment..

It is a ROW car with most of its emissions stuff retained except for the air pump.

David
