Anyone Have Fabspeed's Cold Air Intake System?
I was just wondering if anyone runs this system? I like the fact it removes the big stock air box, but $245 for just 3 filter? Does that seem high to you guys.

I have heard that it will not add any additional performance, aside from being able to change your plugs faster without the big stock box.

The Eagle Day unit is over $300.
Where the cost comes from is the offset machined into the billet base. The equipment to do so is pretty pricy. Both are nice units and a much better answer to the need than that big plastic K&N thing that sells for $425. They do not add significant performance. I don't care what K&N claims on the dyno. I have tried the Eagle Day and made one myself for real cheap. The sound is fantastic and the engine bay clean-up is wonderful. Buy it for that reason alone. |
BMAN,
I have the BMC it was new in a box that cam with my car. I wouldnt spend $245 for it..Is that really what they cost?...I would make one from a K&N element and fab a top and bottom. It does remove that huge stock plenum and clear the engine bay for better accessibility. Performance wise...cant tell or negligable??????? |

Brian,
Looks just like my car except the IC, Mine is stock. have you figured a way to get the damn distributer cap off.. that rear clip is a pain.. I have to take the IC off..Is there a better way? |
My intercooler is on and off so much I now use velcro instead of bolts.

Thanks for all the info guys. I gave in and ordered the Fabspeed one.

I dont understand why that thing costs so much what a rip....
A cheap Mr. Gasket 6" air cleaner like mine for 12 bucks does the same thing. Or just buy the filter for 6 bucks and make your own cover.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182819501.jpg |
what does it consist of? Maybe I should just supply the kits cheaply of course
|
Ben - I was asked to do that some time ago and declined because the parts are so cheap. It would be difficult to pay yourself for the time and shipping costs when folks can buy the stuff at the local AutoZone.
If you want to give it a go I have done all of the leg work and have every part number from the 2 lid bolts to the turbo sump filter. All are stock parts for other applications. I'll give you a call tomorrow. No, I guess that would be later on this morning. |
Brian,
I was putting a kit together for that S tube cooler shown in another thread. It will give you about 8-12 degrees cooling. To make some money they would have to be sold for $150.00. $60-80 cheaper than performance... Profit margin is about $80 a KiT. Might be worth it. |
I followed Rarly8 recipe. Clear bay, awesome sound for $25.

When you changed to the new element, was there any difference in the butt dyno?
|
When changing to the simple element filter, what did you do with the oil breather hose and the other tiny tube connecting at the front of the OEM airbox?
|
I put my breather hose into a catch can, and the fuel evapoator hose into the top as seen in my photo.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1183166724.jpg
|
I put small filters on all the hoses connected to the air box. None of them require a vavuum to work properly. The filter on the oil tank does not blow fumes or make a mess of any sort. Very tidy.
You can see the oil tank filter in my picture above. |
I made a "hose manifold" from the engine oil reservoir breather connection to the top of the air filter holder (you can barely see it on the picture, just like iamchappy) with tees connecting the charcoal canister, turbo breather and cold start valve.
