I'm going to keep the rest under wraps until it is completely finished - by me of course.
What type/model of Borla muffler is that? How does it sound? I am guessing the flange had to be fabbed on for the turbo?

Cheers.

Now, works are on the way......first modifications......

next....in and outlet....because the angles are not right.....the IC must be aroud 10 down on rear to fit correctly with the GT2 wing......

I'm curious to know about the design of this B^ full bay intercooler. Does it have internal baffles to direct airflow evenly across the core? Because if it doesn't it's not working as efficiently as it should. I usually build IC's to suit my customers applications and something that long with an offset inlet tank would require such a baffle.

These pictures below are crude( forgive me but I'm too tired to draw this in solidworks right now) but they relay the gist of what I'm talking about for flow distribution across the core.

Without a baffle. Center colors "depict" charge temp over the core due to uneven airflow. Orange obviously hotter...

With baffle..

I had contemplated fabricating my own intercooler for production for you guys with single turbo porsches(930/965) but I only have access to a '94 3.6 Turbo. I'm fairly sure there would be compatibility issues much like there are with this B6 full bay IC if I built the jig off that car. I'm eventually going to design/build and dyno tune an intercooler for the 3.6, hoping that it would fit the 3.3L Turbo 965's as well as there's a handfull of them running around this area that could use them.

Just my brain ticking away at 9:30pm

Good stuff, and very true from what I've learned:

sigh... I'm just going to keep quiet this time around.

Ag02M5, it is a Borla 3.5" stainless race muffler... I was lucky enought to have a fellow 930 owner water-jet cut the bracket out of 321 for me. I have not finished w/ the car, work keeps me so covered up that the 930 sits and waits for long periods of time.

Thanks. I can relate. My car has been in the garage for 5 months, missing some fantastic weather. Wish I could work on her all day.

Good luck!

Hmmmmm, glad to know I'm not the only one with that issue...maybe we should start a support group. Oh, that what this is.. sorta!!

I am also making adjustments in moving to a Larger IC. My car has an Andial Racing half bay IC.. this IC looks the same as the Garretson and one other manufacturer. Believe they are the same but marketed by different outfits.

Anyway, wanted to move to full bay IC, had been checking the prices on some (wow!) and gathering bits of info as there appear to be many theories on the efficiencies of full bay designs. There were lots of these around in the 80s produced by various tuners and performance manufacturers and I just have a hard time believing that many of the designs would be deemed inferior.

Funny thing is these parts have now all but disappeared.. I guess the choices these days are either Blown6, Powerhaus, or have one custom fabbed by Prototech or somebody?

As I get back to the garage, I will take some pics of mine and post to the thread as well for comparison.

Perhaps the design & school of thought from the 1980s with regards to intercoolers can also be paired with the designs and antiquated turbochargers from that same period. Dunno.

In theory that's a good point, however in looking at some of those designs I don't really see that much of a difference. How many ways is it to make and IC?

There has always been the debate as to side tanks vs. tanks fore and aft which then dictate the direction of the core/airflow. It seems as though Corky Bell had a positive influence on most of the better IC that were produced in this country. I remember the DP IC as being a popular choice in the 80's only heard positive comments about their design.

Corky is the biggest proponent of the divided / smooth tank design

I see the 80s stuff with square tanks, no taper - just basic 'get er done' design.

Porsche in 1991 improved upon this in a fairly significant way with the C2 intercooler - quite a bit different than the 1980s stuff.

DonE had his full bay IC made to his spec at a very reasonable cost. I'm sure it could be found using the search.

Does anyone have contact information for Blown 6? I'm in the market for a intercooler for my '87 930, but can't find information on the company anywhere.

Do folks still like the Blown 6 or is their a better value / better alternative out there?

I would check out the IC that DonE had made before buying.

I also have the same I/C that DonE has. Go to http://www.bellintercoolers.com/index.html

call them and speak to Gerhart.... he has the plans for the I/C.... IMHO...the best out there for the money..if you are going EFi....

If I didn't have a Kokeln I think I would put the extra effort into connecting up the IC he designed to my CIS.
Don used the Carrera manifold IIRC and that is higher than the 930 manifold so it should be possible to pipe it up somehow until it is time for EFI.
